WSBT South Bend - Your Local News Leader : Tough decision could be ahead over St. Joseph County "Option Dog Tax" | WSBT - News, Weather, Sports

I pay my taxes for the roads as a driver, and I pay my property taxes for my property, which is where my dogs stay. You are wrong that I need to pay an extra tax for them to be able to stay on a property that I already own and pay taxes for. Also, I won't be paying a pet license fee this year now that I have read this article. If it is illegal for them to have a licensing system without a tax, then for them for require a license for my pet is illegal.

Yeah, and for those laid off, the ones that were supposed to be called back when they start building taxis, those are the ones that are going to be screwed even more. I can see it now........ AMG will postpone production of the Taxi cabs until the Humvee contracts expire in November and then just ship all of those $100k plus employees over there!!! Stick it to the guy making 50k right? Seems like they would want to do it the other way around, but then as was stated, our president Don Tabor wouldn't have his wife or step-daughter working, would he? All about the politics there!!!

WSBT South Bend - Your Local News Leader : Fire in Osceola at commercial building | WSBT - News, Weather, Sports South Bend | Local News

Well, I was not saying it was for sure the cause. I was merely stating that it is a HUGE likelihood that it could be the cause. And again, I was moreso bringing it up for informative purposes for others that might read it and realize how serious things like that could be, ESPECIALLY in their own homes. Often times people overlook the safety concerns and that is how accidents like that happen. I can't tell you the number of people I have ever told that to that don't believe something like that can happen. It's like magic to them. If there is no flame, how can it catch on fire? That is their thinking. It can be a real pain in the arse to clean that stuff up, but you gotta take care of it to prevent something bad from happening. As I stated at the end of my first post, I hope they have good insurance and can rebuild soon. I was not saying that in a negative way, but in a serious way. I would hate for someone to lose a business because of an accident, especially in these times. I don't believe I fired first, and you don't believe the opposite. I suppose we can both just agree to disagree on that and move on. We both agree that there is no sense in continuing an argument, or attacking each other over something that neither of us is an expert. I just hope that ONE person reads all of this and realizes the dangers that could be. I will be interested in finding out the cause of this fire, and will continue to monitor this story. Hopefully it was a wiring failure or something uncontrollable.

First of all, I think I have made all of 4 comments on this site? Second of all, you took my initial posting on this thread entirely the wrong way. I was not negative about anything, and certainly didn't "blame" a company for it. I was simply stating something that is a major concern in a wood finishing facility. And having first-hand experience on exactly what I have stated, I guess that would make me more of an expert on it than you. Of course, this is not something I have made any claim of either, but you seem to want to label me as a professional who knows all, which I am not. Since when are we not allowed to share our personal experiences on here in hopes of helping other people understand the dangers of something? The point behind my post was simply to help others realize dangers involved in such an industry, and perhaps to save someone else from having an accident in their own home. Do you know how many people don't read the back of a can when they finish something in their garage? Or the ones that do read it and don't think it is a threat? It is a major threat, and needs to be taken seriously. Again, I am no expert, and neither are you. I was only trying to help, but you OBVIOUSLY know better than to take advice from someone who has experience.

I agree, I even stated this on my Facebook page, but was criticized because I wanted people to realize how much money was going to Haiti that could have been raised for this country........

I don't think it's a big assumption at all. I used to work in a facility where finishing was done, and that is a MAJOR concern. I also work with wood now, and in all of my contacts with others that work with wood, any of them will express the importance of disposing of soaked rags. At the place I used to work we had a fire twice while I was working there, both times from spontaneous combustion. Just because your family has had work done from there and they are "very professional" doesn't mean accidents don't happen. Where I worked was professional. It is not something to be taken lightly. However, if you have a new guy and they forget, or don't seem to think it is a serious threat, they could easily put a rag soaked with finish and toss it into a pile with other rags. Once it sits for a couple of hours, it starts to build heat. It's not unusual to start that fire at night. And you're right, it could be a number of things not pertaining to cabinet making, but given the time the fire started, and the type of facility, I would easily give it a 60-70% chance that it was combustion of a rag due to the time frames that things usually happen. Someone probably cleaned up before they went home, and might have been tired and forgot. That's all it takes. I don't think it is fair for you to assume what you have just based on the fact that you have had work done from there. Have you ever experienced the effects of spontaneous combustion?

That sucks. I'd put money on the cause though. I'll be it was from some sort of finishing supplies. Maybe a rag that soaked with something that wasn't disposed of properly. They need to be laid out to dry, soaked in a bucket of water, or put into a metal can with a lid to smother any fires. The first two are preferred. Many times people make a mistake by just leaving them in a pile. They can spontaneously combust. It doesn't take long to light a place up with all that sawdust and wood around. Hopefully they have good insurance and can rebuild soon.
