http://www.calamitiesofnature.com/ : Calamities of Nature - The Californian Accent

I am from Toronto, Ontario and our accents are similar to the California accent (which makes no sense regionally) but I always thought I had no accent, either, probably because my accent sounds like the one on TV. It makes sense, though, that everyone in Hollywood, California, would speak the same as the rest of the Californians. Also, I say "you guys" referring to a group of people, not only men. That is a Canadian thing - it is the influence that the french language has had on our language. Perhaps you Californians should consider your Canadian heritage ;-)

Okay, how could anyone think that a "Lee-Jackson-King day" is good idea? This is just insulting. Tisk-Tisk Virginia. I would rather be in a state that didn't recognize the day than one that did something that bizarre.

Bobbie Dawn : Pin up of the week 50

Thanks Amy - sorry to reply so late, I have been sooo busy with the holidays and lab work. Betty was perfection in a woman, I can't figure it out, but one of my resolutions for the year is to be able to make my best features come across as beautiful, sexy and natural as Betty Page. I have also been researching Marilyn Monroe. I have figure that is not petite and I am well endowed, so to speak, so I try to dress with the right balance of class and sex appeal - but I still want to appear "dainty". It is a real tough one with today's fashion catering mostly to stick figurine women and the trends changing by the minute. I am a fan of simple and understated (although for some reason I have a reputation for the opposite!) I think Betty is a great example of the kind of lady that may have been the same - simple and pretty but with a reputation that was larger than life because of her obvious sex appeal. She nearly jumps out of the page with her charm and charisma. I challenge Hollywood to find personality like this anymore - it just can't be bottled and marketed the way they try to do it nowadays (what is this Hanna Montana crap?)

Bobbie Dawn : Tanners unite!

Hi tokenblogger. I think my parents fucked me in the first place - I am a celiac with high familial incidence of diabetes and heart disease. So its more likely going to be colon cancer, diabetes or heart disease, which really is no surprise if you look at any national statistics.

I am of mostly European descent, so I do have a sickly, pale coloration. Well Ruthie, I say if you want to try a tanning bed in the winter go slow so you don't burn and just enjoy the light. It has definitely improved my mood!

thanks, Mystery_Man Let me know when your blog is started - I'll come visit and put you in my links! I was a little disappointed that she didn't discuss the recession, or any current issues for that matter, especially because she did repeatedly tell us how she is a normal person - just like the rest of us. If she is so freakin' normal, then you'd think she'd notice what was affecting the rest of the planet!!! Haha - such is the life of a regular pop star.

Bobbie Dawn : Pin up of the week - 46

Thanks, Amy! I agree there is very little sparkle left. The starlets are too pre-occupied with the gossip. While I am certain that the gossip plant was always an important part of managing a good hollywood career, I don't know if anyone has even bothered with talent. I can only count about 20 people in Hollywood that I admire for their talent - which usually exudes as sparkle in photos (charisma in general).

Hi Sarah - yes, I was in TO, but I also spent a small fortune in Montreal. If you have never been to Simons, then you must go sometime. Doesn't Insomnia have internet? Anyhow i am going to be done my thesis soon and then my boyfriend and I are thinking we'll be back in the city soon - I know I'll gt to see your crafts soon. His sister makes some great hand-made knits - her "label" is called "Hello Sailor" so maybe we can find a way to have her stuff and your stuff in some of the same crafting events.

Bobbie Dawn : 42,000 people in my area rely on the United Way

Thanks for the information, Angel. A close student friend of mine was getting evicted last summer and went to the food bank to try and get food and they refused her - it may just be Peterborough, ON, where I sometimes wonder who runs this place. The food bank said she could get OSAP (government student loans) and therefore she could afford food. However, the government somehow lost her check and she had no money for four months. That's why she had no money for food or rent and so, the food bank and her landlord lacked sympathy. My undergraduate university had it's own food bank and i did have to visit more than once. It was a great place. When i had more money, I went back and replaced the food I took and always hoped that it helped another student the way it helped me. I couldn't link to the time article you sent, I need a login id, but I do think the situation is going to get worse. I would advice many kids to work after high school, save for their education - go to school part-time if they must, but mostly not to go into debt if they can avoid it. If anyone can be happy learning a trade or doing a job that doesn't require a college degree than try it - our society places too high a value on this type of education and it doesn't mean you'll make more money, i think it means you'll start off on life late with more debt.

By "it" I suppose you mean rich? I do think that it is sad that more than 50% of my town's population needs help from the United way. That statistic is not largely different than any other year. This town is poor and filled with drug addict and alcoholics. the crime is also high. I really wish someone would actually try to help by bringing jobs here.

Bobbie Dawn : My life was ruined when I moved here

Thanks dead rooster. I agree that there is always a motive behind mean girls like that. I really wanted to whine a little and you caught me. i appreciate that you reminded the truth. I know one mean girl was mean because she is mean to all of the women that work in her husband's lab. She can't be fired because her boss is her husband. The other mean girls, I think they are about 24 and they dislike me because I am older. I have found a group of really nice friends, finally. However I would much rather have put up with female bullying at Cambridge or Harvard than the crappy no-name school I've gone to where a whole bunch of rainbow trout have mistakenly interpreted themselves as top-of the line fish in a big pond when they have never met a muskie to know that they are kidding themselves. I want to swim with the big fish to see and find that challenge I was always seeking - not have to deal with the immature girls.
