I am one of the very few folks willing to come on here and defend the BBC. But all I could do in the face of this story was a massive facepalm. Andrew utterly nails my own thoughts upon hearing the BBC's both tone-deaf attack on a hugely popular and significant annual cultural event and confused, tin-eared response to the inevitable (REPEAT UTTERLY INEVITABLE) backlash that ensued. In these politically charged times for the BBC, what exactly were they thinking?

Absolutely. There really is very little to this story. Whilst I think Jenrick was put in a bad position due to Desmond's weaseling and perhaps behaving somewhat clumsily in the face of that, I don't believe he has done anything to warrant resignation.

What a load of nonsense. My daughter's primary is a fairly-easy going school but daily assembly consists of singing every day of children's worship type songs.

I recently worked in a Leicester primary school where EAL kids represented over 95% of the school population, and thrice weekly assemblies were all about promoting British values. Christmas too was PROPER Christmas. Muslim cultural dates like Eid and Ramadan were respected and discussed, but the emphasis was always on the culture of the country these families had made their home.

By the way - you're really showing your age referencing Beyoncé and Jay-Z!
