I think honestly I would convict both the parents in the case if I could. 1 the dad just had a dumbest judgement for not putting the gun away when he got home last night. And 2 Mom didn't do a very good job of keeping kids in line. I know parenting can be a challenge. but I think in this case I just wonder how much parenting was done. 2. The 3 year old plays with toy guns and is always trying to get to play with daddy's gun. with # 2 I just wonder again where is the parents mind? I feel very bad for this family the loss of a child is very hard. I know this cause I have experienced it. But all of this could have been prevented and not been an issue. I have a Pit and I raised her from 6 weeks old. I will say some things about this breed both negative and positive. What I have found is the breed is naturally pack protective. any dog/person that identifies as part of its pack they will protect. Another factor If you don't introduce them to other dog breeds early on they tend to more more animal aggressive than what some people would expect. I would recommend if you want one of these dogs to add to your family and you want this to be a good dog not some junk yard guard dog. Get a puppy and train them right away. Show it love be a responsible dog owner most likely you wont be one of these cases you read about. Now I had 2 Pitts at one time. they both were great dogs. But I did have to let one go due to changes to our living arrangements. One other thing about this breed is the animal aggressive issue is a huge issue. I just be a responsible pet owner don't let your dog get out of your control learn what can set your dog off and avoid situations that could hurt other dogs or people. I cant stress enough the animal aggressive issues with this breed. I've found that I raised mine to be around other breeds very early on. So my older Pitt now she is fine I can take comfort in knowing she will not run off and attack first on a different dog breed. But If you don't do this early on its very likely. You will always be battling this issue where this dog breed will try to get away from you and go aggressively after other breeds. Its really hard but you have to train the dogs well and start young it helps a lot. Another thing is sometimes they will have mental break downs. Just learn about preventive steps on those.
