The first book was definitely more impressive as well. I'm almost done with the second, and I keep running across stuff that makes me want to write very pointed letters to Mr. Simmons
I was just thinking how perfectly this fits the Hyperion Cantos (which I'm enjoying... sort of? but boy does it have a lot of old tired tropes)
Back when I was still a bookseller, I had to call the Waldman/Chabon household to set up a UPS pickup for some books Michael Chabon had agreed to sign for us - my boss gave me a number to call, and I was promptly treated to a tirade from Ms. Waldman who apparently felt that no one should have that number. She was perfectly horrid, and meanwhile I'm thinking "but... this is the number your husband gave us? to arrange pickup?" Since then, none of her rants really surprise me...
Yeah, that guy was a real "alpha" (I remember him describing himself as having a "Stallion Mentality) so I'm pretty sure this is a different fellow.
I just finished Broken Monsters by Lauren Beukes, and you guys it is TERRIFYING. Highly recommend, though the ensuing nightmares may or may not be worth it to you.
I love this movie so much there aren't even words - thank you for doing such justice to all my feelings about it!
I think it also deserves extra consideration for how incredibly DEAD ON Marilyn's comedic timing was.
I was JUST ranting about the Change of Heart puzzle to my partner who was trapped in a car with me this morning and could not escape from my stream of crossword rage. I thought it was clever once I saw the solution, but I don't think the "trick" was adequately signaled. It just made me give up and miss out on my usual amount of enjoyment.
This is everything I never knew I needed.
I love that I have played that game SO many times and never played the same haunt.
Seconding the "I have never EVER felt the strings." Frankly, I don't think I could find my cervix with a map and a flashlight.
