KATU - Portland, OR : Why did gas prices shoot up in the last week? | Local & Regional | KATU.com - Portland News, Sports,

It is amazing to me that someone can be so ignorant, willfully ignorant, on such a simple matter that has been gone over so much: The current amount of drilling is a result of permits under Bush. The choking off of drilling permits under Obummer will show up in the future. There is a lag between permits and production. Idiot.

We absolutely will never accept the unneeded idea of vehicle tracking for road taxation. Anybody who does has identified themselves as a intrusive big government authoritarian who has no understanding of, or respect for, our American concept of freedom and civil liberty. Now don't get me going by asking how I really feel.

We already pay usage fees; it's called a GAS TAX! And it is a PROGRESSIVE TAX. Isn't that enough?!!?!! If people are not driving as much or driving more fuel effcient cars (lighter, less wear on infrastructure) then you don't need as much revenue because there is less use and wear on infrastructure. Electric cars are insignificant and will be for a while so they can ride for free just like bicycles. We accept the "tax the rich" progressive nature of the gas tax to promote fuel efficiency, the ultimate expression of which is that bicycles ride for free. If or when electric vehicles become significant then you can tax them a mileage usage through annual or semi-annual DEQ odometer check and registration. That would be the automotive equivalent of the income tax. There, problem solved. That is, unless, the problem is not proper revenue collection but ravenous, unaccountable, spending and unchecked government control. Naw, not that.

KATU - Portland, OR : \'Lady, can I kill your dog?\' \'Yes, kill my dog now\' | Local & Regional | KATU.com - Portland New

It is said that pets are a reflection of their owners. The pit bull took a bite and would not let go. Likewise, the pit bull owners say, "they are exploring what legal action they can take". Go ahead pit bull owners, take a big legal bite just like you trained/allowed your dog to do and watch if you don't suffer the same fate as your dog (in a legal sense). You are proving all the commentators who say it is not the dogs, it is the owners.

KATU - Portland, OR : Two people killed, others injured in rash of overnight shootings. | Local & Regional | KATU.com - Po

I agree with your point to some extent and i believe that the Singapore example lends some validation to the effectiveness of harsher punishment but, consider the full extent of what those harsher punishments brings. I am one who is all for capital punishment but the extreme (to me) example of hang 'em until they are dead to anyone connected to any illegal firearm would kill an awful lot of people. Some say it would be getting rid of the right people though. I would say the problem is not "soft on armed criminals" specifically but coddling of criminals in general. Where is the fear of going to a place that has better living conditions than many people have on the outside? Free room, board, health care, etc. and all you have to trade is most of your freedom (sounds like the liberal/progressive movement). This is why I am a fan of Sheriff Arapiao in Arizona. Prisoners get minimal entertainment, basic food, live in tents, and every stitch of clothing is pink. The Sheriff has been heard to say that no prisoner should live better than any of our troops out in the field. All of the inmates there have said that they hate going to jail there and will do anything to get out. Good for you Sheriff, that is the idea.

If I was sitting on the jury i would have been highly offended to hear such nonsense about the young man being violent because of his "Kung Fu movie collection". Because of the city attorney's grasping at straws I would have had the jury vote for raising the punitive award another $100k to punish the Attorney for gross stupidity. Sure, make your case, but if you reach to far you are going to be punished.

The homebuilt Long-Eze airplane that John Denver had just purchased had a fuel selector valve that was defective and could only be turned with Herculean effort. The valve was also installed in a place that made Herculean effort almost impossible to apply while flying. Mr. Denver found this out while flying over water in a California bay (Monterrey Bay? Half Moon Bay?) and did not survive the ensuing water landing.

Does anybody remember that it was the post office that brought suit years ago against UPS, FedEx, etc. for infringing on "their" business of correspondence delivery? They lost that suit but apparently did not lose their entitlement mentality. Now these poor people are marching to keep the jobs they feel they are entitled to. This will not change until they are separated from government and made to compete directly with the organizations that they tried to sue many years ago.
