Great post. I think Abraham went through this same sort of thing in his life. Genesis 17 Gen 17:17-18 (NIV) Abraham fell facedown; he laughed and said to himself, "Will a son be born to a man a hundred years old? Will Sarah bear a child at the age of ninety?" (18) And Abraham said to God, "If only Ishmael might live under your blessing!" God had waited to long and he had lost his hope. Obviously over time he regained it and God blessed. I had to deal with this a lot when I was pastoring in England. Right after church we had a number of people who would rush out and roll their own cigarettes. Rather than freaking out I chose to believe it wasn't that big of a deal. At least they were coming to church.

Just went over and checked out the "Prayer helpers site" listed above http://prayer-helpers.com/ I was shocked that you can actually buy a prayer and have a person pray it for you. The disclaimers are interesting in case the prayer is not answered. "Of course God’s will is unknowable, and we cannot promise that his plan has room for your prayer, but we do guarantee that our Prayer Helper will pray with all of their heart, asking Him to hear your prayer." I think I'll let the Holy Spirit and Jesus pray for me. That's a bit more scriptural.

I'm a pastor so of course the mantle of professional prayer has been given to me by my family. I thought I was doing alright until I read this post. I now see what a rank amateur I’ve been the whole time, a mere poser when it comes to real prayer. I can't remember the last time I made up a word or prayed for so long the meal lost all its heat. I hang my head in shame.

And when we spend those days indulging in poison, we get poisonous lives." Amen brother. I've been thinking about the same things lately. Why don't we have the peace God promised? Peace doesn't come when we stay at a distance from God and close in on the peace stealing things of the world. Why don't we have joy inexpressible like Scripture says we should? Joy is only found when God is the source of myjoy, when I try to substitute anything else true joy is impossible. We are all to quick to settle for spiritual mediocrity. Thanks for the reminder.

One of the funniest stories I've heard was of a senior pastor and one of the members getting into a punch up in the parking lot. Happened right in front of a lot of his people. He said it was pretty uncomfortable preaching his next sermon.
