.....funny, just as Governor Dayton is proposing tax hikes, and Governor Walker is proposing tax cuts, Hutchinson is moving from Minnesota to Wisconsin. Now why is that?

Hey, there's a great technology for you!

One wonders if they've ever heard of "doodlebugs" there....

Walking on I-35? Sounds like your brain has been working on those lithium batteries, Woof!

(and the results aren't pretty)

The good news about electric cars if if they hit someone, there is a very limited range you'll need to search!

Ironically, the big loss in insurance coverage seems to be coming AFTER Obamacare was passed......wouldn't total repeal help out the poor, then, by removing asinine restrictions on insurers?

Even if that happened--and add in nuclear generation too--you're still stuck with the lithium battery. More or less, it would only move electric cars closer to where regular cars are already, but would not get them there.

Speaking as an engineer familiar with the concept....no, we will not be driving electric cars. The trick is that even if they make lithium batteries far more reliable than they are today--and that is a stretch when you consider realities like interdiffusion and such--you will not make large leaps in the energy to weight ratio simply because lithium is the lightest metal that can be used for batteries. Nickel beats lead, and lithium beats nickel, as anyone who can read a periodic table of the elements can see.

However, there is no metallic form of hydrogen or helium, hence you're not going to get a huge reduction in battery weight, hence you're never going to get a workable electric car that goes more than about 100 miles on a battery charge. Physics and chemistry; it's not just a good suggestion, it's the law.

(you may get far better hybrids, perhaps with boost from solar cells and possibly even fuel cells, but you are not going to get a reasonable electric car that you just plug in and go)

It's going to take some work to rewrite all those hillbilly jokes as "Ivy League Professor" jokes.......

I've had the sad opportunity to hear child support amounts--from friends and acquaintances, thankfully not personally--and as I consider the reality of the cost of daycare, medical care, and such, it would be fairly hard to overstate the impact.

That said, if one parent were to pay for an amount corresponding to all this, it might not be difficult for the parent of 3 children to live off that amount!

Our host is correct, though, in stating that the current system creates a grossly perverse incentive to maximize child support payments. Time to return funding for these social programs to the states, I dare say.

Who knew that federal judges knew there was a 10th Amendment to the Constitution?
