The Linn-Mar kid won the 6th man award and played on a Big Ten championship team. He was Iowa's to lose and that's what Alford did...lose him.

I agree. Hiawatha and Marion bent over backwards to help CR during the flood. Corbett is a typical pol. Looks out for his own self-interest.

I'm assuming your source is Coach Fennelly. He got $70K to take the ISU job, $21k more than his predecessor. Hard to believe he got more than $70 at Toledo. Then add in the stuff the Gazette article didn't have. Camps, Cyclone Network appearances, etc.

Good for Coach Fennelly. But you strayed from the point. Coach Fennelly is preaching one standard for institutions and a different standard for coaches. His success on the court doesn't mask his hypocisy in this matter.

Just curious. When Coach Fennelly left Toledo for ISU was he still employed by the Rockets? Or did he break his contract to make more money in a more prestigious conference? Also, I don't recall his indignation when Greg McDermott left Ames for Omaha.

GazetteOnline.com : Tucker now 10th player with eligibility to leave under Lickliter

Coach Ferentz, Coach Alford, Coach Davis all had players they recruited leave their programs. Facts of life in today's college sports scene. Jermain went to two different jucos, Iowa and now Minn. St. I think the answer to his travels can be seen in his mirror. Bohall had a severe alcohol incident, didn't he? And the fact that Bohall and Wessel saw significant court time is a testament to the end of the Alford era. Usually walk ons only in case of emergency (see Bauer, Moore, Bohall, Lickliter.) Crawford only averages 12.8 minutes a game for Indy State. As for Coach Lickliter's charisma, it is off the charts compared to his predecessor. Coach Alford had the presence of a POed wet noodle. I've had considerable face time with both men and it ain't close. He isn't Bruce Pearl, but he's not as bad as you paint him.

I've been able to spend time with each coach from Olson to present. Lute was aloof. Alford was self-righteous. Lickliter is very engaging in person. The list is misleading. Crawford barely made it to Iowa the first time. Rumors had him leaving before Alford split. Bohall and Wessels were walk-ons. Palmer is at his third school and Davis at is fourth school, so their track record prior to Iowa was not all that impressive. Smith and Kelly were motivated by personal tragedies, though I think when Neal left Smith was going anyway. Only Freeman and Peterson seemed to be driven by something else.

KCRG : Sinclair Rejects Mediacom Extension Despite University Request | KCRG-TV9 | Cedar Rapids, Iowa News,

KCRG : Lawmakers, Satellite Companies Join Mediacom in Sinclair Dispute | KCRG-TV9 | Cedar Rapids, Iowa New

For those that think Mediacom is at fault. Why have non-Sinclair stations had no difficulty with Mediacom? Why are DIRECT-TV and DISH Network joining Mediacom's side in this fight? Sinclair almost declared bankruptcy this summer. Think that is motivation for their actions? I plan on making a list of local businesses that advertise on KGAN and calling them and KGAN/KFXA and informing them I plan to boycott their businesses. An email to Gary Barta will be on its way encouraging the U of I to suspend media credentials (pipe dream, I know) for Sinclair stations covering the U of I sports teams.

GazetteOnline.com : Marion commission OKs next phase in downtown traffic redesign

From the time it exits Cedar Rapids to Highway 13 it is four lane minimum except that short stretch Only stop lights in that short stretch are on 10th, 12th and 13th since the city malled off 11th Street decades ago.

BTW, if you didn't notice they will be running traffic by the school at 35 mph. There is a sign right inside the drive by Indian Creek school. Of course there is the standard CYA sign 20-30 feet away saying the limit is 25 mph when children are present. 29th Avenue east of Indian Creek Road is 30 MPH. Does the city even know what they plan to do? Doubtful.

I find it odd that a daily newspaper, three TV news staffs and numerous radio news staffs all agreed that this wasn't newsworthy back in January. Unless they didn't know. I have little faith in the honesty of the city planning and zoning departments. My trust in the Gazette is greater than my trust in Marion government. Sad, but true.

The Gazette has numbers of readers that dwarf the Times. The Messenger? Might as well tack it on the Hy-Vee bulletin board. Publicizing it properly is putting it out on the most viewed/read media. Not a small city weekly and a monthly city publication. If the city was not trying to fly under the radar why choose media with poor readership numbers?

Indian Creek parents asked about getting a stop light, similar to what is on 10th Street by Novak. We were told it is out of the locals hands. Feds have regulations that govern an intersection like 29th and IC Road. Now this council member may be misinformed but this is what we were told. Where in NE Marion is the development going to occur? Especially in this economy? I'm sure there will be an exciting Caseys on the corner of 10th and 29th. Ask Linn-Mar staff about their opinions on how the apartment complexes on 10th and Boyson have impacted the district. Add in the flooding in the area because of poorly governed residential building and you can see why this long time Marion resident isn't feeling optimistic about the city's wisdom.
