Big Journalism : The Racial Hypocrisy of Juan Williams, Jeffrey Goldberg, and the Liberal Media

Oh, I knew better than to except him to do any racial healing. I did hold some faint hope that the mere presence of a black man in the white house might have a positive effect, but it was quickly dashed.

Big Hollywood : ‘Sleeping Beauty’ Review: A Trashy, Empty, Bizarre Sex Worker Story

I stopped watching this film at the scene where they strip her to her undies for evaluation. From what had already transpired I suspected they didn't plan to have anything redemptive in the storyline, and it appears my decision not to watch any more of her depressing fictional life was justified.

Big Journalism : 'Descended Into Madness': NY Post Reporter Spends Night at #OccupyWallStreet

I really, really hope you are just a troll. To address your...points, is likely pointless, but I feel like wasting some time. Assuming you actually mean any of it and are not simply attempting to get a rise, I will proceed. 1) There is no excuse for approaching a stranger with a "raging hardon" even if she is a "cutey." Most civilized men know this, but apparently you are an exception. 2) Despite decades of study, scientists have yet to find conclusive proof of pheromone response in the human animal. Therefore "her pheromones" cannot be used to excuse the aforementioned uncivilized behavior. 3) I have yet to see a defense of "attacking" (or even merely harassing) women by Cain. The defenses have claimed he did neither.

I'd be much more inclined to give credence to her story if Gloria Allred weren't involved. The fact that she chose such a partisan attorney makes it hard to believe any claim that her motives are apolitical.

Big Hollywood : 'Once Upon a Time' Review: Shows Enough Promise to Overcome Weak Fantasy Elements

It does have some promise, but I suspect that excessive modernization of the fairy tale parts, the unbelievably fashionably dressed sheriff, lack of a strong male lead (though the Prince in the 3rd episode may begin stepping/waking up), the annoying twelve year old, and the lack of any female leads I find stunning will cause me to lose interest.

Big Government : ObamaCare Goes to the Supreme Court

Obamacare does not solve that. It creates no mandate for the poor to buy insurance, and only the poor uninsured are currently able to get treatment on the state's dime. Uninsured people with income already must pay for their treatment.

Obamacare goes much farther than the exercise of federal power in Raich. I agree that the logic used by Scalia in Raich could apply to Obamacare and that because 2 of 3 circuits have ruled in favor, the government has reason for confidence. There is a very large difference, however, between the facts in Raich and the facts they will discuss regarding Obamacare. In Raich, they ruled that a state could not pass a law that undermined an existing, unquestionably legal, federal regulatory scheme, even if that law targeted only intrastate commerce. That situation is distinguishable from the situation here, where the government seeks to mandate the nationwide purchase of a good. This situation has no precedent, and should they declare it legal they would "effectually obliterate the distinction between what is national and what is local and create a completely centralized government." (U.S. v. Morrison, quoting NLRB v. Jones & Laughlin Steel Corp.), an action I don't believe Scalia will support. He took pains in his concurrence in Raich to make clear that the situation did not violate that very language. It could go either way, but I don't think Scalia will support Obamacare.

Finding parts of bills "severable" is done all the time. Declaring an entire act of the duly elected legislature invalid is supposed to be the last resort of the courts; finding one part unconstitutional but letting the rest stand is one way they have attempted to avoid doing so.

Big Hollywood : Your Move, Morgan!: Black Tea Party Organizer Invites Freeman to TN Event

"Conservative" didn't always mean what it does now. The Dixiecrats were "conservative" in that they longed for the good old days when blacks were enslaved. Similarly, in nations with a long tradition of autocracy (or absolute monarchy or dictatorship or whatever you want to call it) "conservative" has been synonymous with the elites who want to maintain their power, whether they be aristocrats or wealthy military officers. That is not the case within the United States. Our tradition is rule of, by and for the people, and so conservatives here are by and large those who reject rule by a small, un-elected elite. That sort of rule has been an outside imposition since the revolution, usually attempted in the name of "progress." And the states' rights argument was used against blacks for a very long time. It was used to secede, it was used to justify the black codes, it was used to justify segregation of schools, it was used to justify every aspect of Jim Crow. If you ever get a chance, read A Fool's Errand by Albion W. Tourgée; written in 1879, it already identified states' rights as the argument that would defend institutional racism. However, simply because states' rights were used as a means to achieve a repellent end does not mean that they are inherently evil and racist. It is unfortunate that the Democratic Party dirtied the federalist tradition in that way, and downright evil that they are dishonest enough to use their own history to tar those who seek to use states' rights to PRESERVE freedom rather than to suppress a minority.

Big Journalism : Where is the Truth in the Troy Davis Death Penalty Coverage?

His case went through an extensive appeals process designed to weed out wrongfully convicted persons, as does every death penalty case. (That is why executions are expensive, by the way.) Then it went beyond that, eventually getting to the Supreme Court. They remanded it for an evidentiary hearing, where the factual case against his guilt could be presented. After hearing the case, the judge called the case presented to him "smoke and mirrors." He wrote a 140 page opinion on it, making clear exactly why it did not meet the "clear and convincing" evidence standard necessary to overturn the execution. He only found one of the witness recantations credible, and two partially credible. I guess for CNN reporters his opinion was tl:dr.
