Avatar (IMHO) is a popcorn flick. I do not expect a whole lot of truth when I go the movies, and when I do find it I am grateful. On the other had, I agree that there is no excuse for a bad script. I detest bad writing and get great pleasure from well written pieces of work (something like LOST for example). However not all writers have the same style, reach, or (for good or ill) the same desire for quality. There were a ton of articles about Avatar being a propaganda movie. I thought James wasted his energies on the article above, but he won me over with his response to my comment because I felt it wasn't a derivative work as his article was.
