Sean Su : Avoid Site5 and other cheap hosts at ALL COSTS!

Thanks Sean for posting that, we took over October 22nd 2008 as that was the day we closed. I think you can see from that blog post we didn't inherit a perfect company but we are working very hard to make it such. If you don't still have an account with us let me know if you want one free of charge to see the changes we have made and how much support has improved too. Yep, I am confident that in 60 to 90 days we will finish cleaning out our base and you are going to start seeing a big reputation shift over the next year and next five years. We have a lot of plans to offer not only the typical shared hosting but also some very unique features aimed at web designers especially. We are hoping after we finish clean up in 60 to 90 days and start work on some of those projects with the goal to launch late in 2009. We just finished in Feb updating all servers to the latest version of PHP, MySQL, Ruby, Git, SVN, Python, and more. We are currently testing Phusion and Django with plans to deploy them shortly too. My guess is the PHP order is one that might have changed with this update. I would really appreciate if you could email me at bwb@site5.com with what you are seeing now if you have an account? Also I would like to get the email you submitted tickets with or numbers if you have them as tech support should never have said that. That is entirely possible to change on the server, or at the least change via a .htaccess tweak. PHP5 is default now so you should haven't to rename anything and that was a terrible fix. Please let me know details so I can track down that ticket. That is odd, we test our live chat with FireFox/Opera/Safari/IE, but I haven't tested with Chrome, I'll take a look, let me know if you still see probs with Firefox as we all use that for everything internally and haven't had issues, Thanks, Ben

Hi Sean, I am very sorry to hear you had trouble with us at Site5 and can assure you that that is not the case. Can you email me at bwb@site5.com with some details on when this was? First, I can assure you Site5 support is available on live chat 24 horus a day 7 days a week. Please send me details on when you sent this as we actually only man sales for a business hours so this is quite suprising and you might have just caught us during a fluke or shift change. I'm very sorry you were not happy with support. We have been doing quite a lot over the last 90 days to improve support and I think you would be much impressed with what we have done. I would like to hear which support personal you were not happy with if you can email me some ticket IDs to review. Myself and my business partner bought Site5 in late October 2008 from the origional owners and have been working very hard to fix some past mistakes. You can see a big list of what we have done during the first 90 days of being in charge here (http://weblog.site5.com/articles/2009/02/01/state... I've been in the hosting industry for 10 years and worked for HostGator and other companies and I have big plans for Site5. There have been a few rough spots in Site5's history but I can assure you those are well behind us and were mostly due to such quick growth it was overwhelming and hurting infrastructure. PHP 5 is fully supported and up to date and you can also use PHP 5 if you need. You can also adjust whatever index file to be the default using .htaccess which our support would be happy to help with. We have over 25,000 customers and with any hosts of our size you are going to be able to find bad reviews, you can do this with Media Temple, HostGator, or any big host. This is not to say that Site5 has been perfect, 2007 and 2008 had some problems and we have fixed a great deal of those during the first three months as the new owners of Site5. Average response time for tech support is down to an average of 24 minutes and we are looking to get that lower! Just in the last three months we have hired five new personal to help improve support even more! I would be happy to give any past customers a free 60 day trial and you will see how much we have changed. Just email me at bwb@site5.com to see. Please email me as I would be happy to see what we did wrong and help you Sean, Thanks, Ben Site5 CEO and Owner bwb@site5.com
