Weather Water Cooler : Snowfall Totals So Far

What time was this posted??? Cause at 11pm Cedar Rapids was already way over 6 inches in my opinion. My apartment complex parking lot is small, surrounded by buildings, minus the entrance, which helps block some of the wind so it doesn't cause huge drifting. So the snow depth was close to even across the lot when plows came through.... there was at least 10 or 11 inches then. and by the looks of it at least a couple more have fallen since.

KCRG : Southbound Interstate 380 Traffic Slow Due to Several Accidents | KCRG-TV9 | Cedar Rapids, Iowa News

Headline says "Several Accidents" but the article sounds like only one or two accidents from the little it says. Maybe two cars so two separate one car accidents or one accident involving two cars. Headline is misleading; I thought maybe there was a pile up or something since accidents on 380 are a common thing.

I agree, because now knowing more of the facts, my opinion of the situation have now changed. The way it was reported seems biased, as if trying to stimulate a certain response.

Nice, KCRG fails to report the facts and I get thumbs down for making a reasonable comment based on the facts I was offered at the time. I do not live in Rochester Township, nor do I know anyone who does. I only knew the facts reported in the news. After reading the other facts offered, I can see why a compromise would not be a reasonable idea. So thank you all for giving me no chance to learn the other facts before giving me thumbs down. Perhaps you should give KCRG the thumbs down for not being dependable in reporting all the facts!

KCRG : Donated Furniture Brings Bed Bugs to Iowa City Shelter | KCRG-TV9 | Cedar Rapids, Iowa News, Sports,

I can see wanting to take precautions on donated furniture, but this being the first issue in 30 years and banning it altogether, is ridiculous. It will cost more in the long run constantly having to by new furniture to replace old worn out stuff. There has to be a better way...

So compromise! Let the wildflowers grow on the edges and perhaps other places in and around the cemetery that do not hinder walking to, visiting of any graves or the viewing of any gravestones. Oh wait, that would make too much sense to find a middle ground....

KCRG : Anti-Gay Church Group A No-Show, But Waterloo Rally Goes On | KCRG-TV9 | Cedar Rapids, Iowa News, Sp

I'm not a very religious person... but it says in the Bible “Judge not, and you will not be judged; condemn not, and you will not be condemned; forgive, and you will be forgiven;”~ Luke 6:37. Plus many other versus that have the same meaning. And then we have very religious people, from Topeka, KS. using the same Bible to judge others..... I guess they will be really getting judged when they move on from this world. It would be so much easier if people could just agree to have differences and respect each other enough to share all the rights but not throw their own differences into the faces of others.... Opps, sorry I started daydreaming again about a perfect world....

KCRG : Trial Set In Iowa Strip-Search Case | KCRG-TV9 | Cedar Rapids, Iowa News, Sports, and Weather | Loca

Unless these girls are mentally challenged in some way, they should have known their rights and been taught that this was not appropriate especially being in high school. By knowing this they should have refused and then when they got punished for refusing, they would have proof of the intention of a school official trying strip search them. So much easier to get people in trouble when there is proof. I guess that would make too much sense though. If my kids are ever asked to do something they are uncomfortable with and/or know is inappropriate, they have my full backing to refuse but are to ask to call me immediately and if that is denied then they are to go straight to the office, with or without permission, and ask to call me, if they are still denied calling me, they are to sit down without making a fuss or scene and refuse to move until I have been contacted... eventually the school or police will call me... I dare a school official to something inappropriate... there will me more than a law suit happening!

KCRG : FEMA Says Building Cedar Rapids Library at TrueNorth Site Too Costly | KCRG-TV9 | Cedar Rapids, Iowa

It's been over two years.... various people, government organizations and all the rest of the people involved need to learn to communicate better and stop changing their minds all the time. We as a community would like to move forward and get on with our lives, but when people fail to communicate or when they change their minds or the rules just when we are about to take a step forward, it hurts the community. I still look around and see all the damage from the flood that isn't getting cleaned up, I'm tired of seeing and hearing about the flood. The community needs to move on so it can heal, we've suffered to long. Please to end our suffering and allowing us to heal, will people stop changing their minds and/or the rules and just get things cleaned up and rebuilt once and for all!

KCRG : First of the “Early Out” Wednesdays in Cedar Rapids Public Schools | KCRG-TV9 | Cedar Ra

In addition to my original comment -- My concern is about the students that really need the meal, and their parents are counting on them getting it this time.... if they ride a bus, forget it they don't eat, or if a parent is giving them a ride to their students next activity during their lunch hour, either the parent is late getting back to work or the student don't eat. For those with high schoolers that get home on their own, after today, at least we know why they are so late getting home and the schools better figure out they won't ever be able to serve hundreds of students and get them off campus in 13 minutes or less... it is just not happening.

What I found confusing, was the district message saying with the new early out times ALL students will be served lunch, since they will be getting out later than the old half day times. My child in middle school was served lunch during school hours but my child in high school was given 13 minutes get a sack lunch and clear off school grounds. We live about 4 blocks from the school and it was well over an hour after school got out when she came through the door with a sack lunch becasue the lines were so long no one eatting left campus on time.

I was attending college that year. I had gotten up that morning and got my three kids ready to go to daycare and school then packed them into the car. I dropped one off at school and then the other two off at daycare. The lady at daycare asked me if I mind them "watching the news about the plane crash". I said ok, and rushed off to school clueless. I was sooo clueless that morning and thing were just so hectic I hadn’t even turned on my car radio… I feel so bad for not knowing right away. When I got to campus, I walked into the lounge/cafeteria area prior to class just in time to look up at a TV screen and see the second plane hit. I didn't go to class; instead I went and picked up all my kids to make sure they all knew I was there for them, and how much I loved them. Then we went home and I sat in front of the TV crying with the rest of America.

Hmmm... Wasn't there an article recently that mentioned the lack of manpower to go after all the drug makers/dealers? I say let the idiots wanting to go get diseases get them, it's their choice and it will be their punishment. Then use the manpower on bigger stuff like the people dealing drugs to our kids or gun violence near our schools, parks, homes, ect... Wait that might make too much sense...

KCRG : Task Force Calls for City, County Animal Control Agency | KCRG-TV9 | Cedar Rapids, Iowa News, Sports

This might be a good idea... it might get more animals off the street. Especially since it is difficult to get a hold animal control (only number I could find is disconnected), and the Humane Society wants $50 from you if you drop off an animal, you found wandering about in need of shelter and care -- especially if you tried to do the right thing and took care of the animal for a couple of days because you were trying to reunite it with it's owner. So if they join together perhaps the fee to drop off a homeless animal would disappear or at least go down, in turn allowing people to bring in animals instead of them being dropped in various areas and left on their own.

Now that someone is being sued parades will be banned or there will have to be disclaimers posted along all parade routes stating something to the affect of "watch parade at your own risk". I get the family might be struggling or will in the future to pay medical bill for their child, but there are many other ways to get assistance for this. Quote - "Her injuries were “severe and permanent,” the lawsuit states, adding that she “will be hindered and prevented from attending to her usual duties and affairs of life.” If this is true then the family can get her on SSI-disability and the government (assisted by the taxes we already pay) will help with the medical bills. My thoughts and prayers go out to all those that were injured and the families that suffered losses, but suing is just the wrong way to go with this. This was a very rare and sad accident but this lawsuit can and will change the future enjoyment of things like this for everyone.

I had renter's insurance, matter of fact I still do... $11.08 per month. It didn't cover damages from the flood. I have tried to add supplemental flood insurance for just in case in the future and got told it's not available unless I am a home owner in the flood zone. Went to another company and got a quote for renters w/ flood coverage and they wanted almost $50 per month.... I can't afford that. So now what do you tell people like me. Probably the same thing the government has said... sorry there is nothing that can be done for you.
