The current NBC/ND deal is $15M/year... Even though the program has sputtered of late, there is still a huge fan following across the nation pulling in 3.7M viewers a game, which isn't too shabby.

They won't though, that's the thing. They will always have the NBC contract and the BCS catering to them. Why not stay independent? All they need to do to be qualified for a BCS bowl is be in the top 8 BCS ranking, that could be with any amount of wins. Otherwise, by joining a conference, they have to win that conference or get an at-large bid, generally meaning 11+ wins.

I'll concede the Big 10 is awful to compared to the all mighty big 12 in bowl games, but as far as conference ratings, I took you up on looking at Sagarin rating back to '98 (farthest back USAToday had). Football Big 12 Average - 3.3 Big 10 Average - 4.1 MBB Big 12 Average - 3.9 Big 10 Average - 3.4 I am still trying to find out where the Big 12 is far more superior than the Big 10, because those numbers do not reflect superiority, if anything, the Big 12 is a snudge better than the Big 10 in football and vice versa for MBB based on these "rankings". Look, we can cut this down to 1 year, 5 year, whatever, you will never convince me that adding Mizzou brings anything to the table.

Not really, the Big 10 has been planning this for a while, they have their ducks in a row. The wait is a power play to get Notre Dame to join. Other conferences just can't start asking other schools to join without going through their processes.
