So you would agree that geeks are closer to the mainstream society, and can transition back and forth more easily than a nerd? Nerds are more out there than geeks? Are there certain things that one MUST be a geek/nerd to enjoy or comprehend? e.g. Are all engineers geek/nerds? I think of myself as a nerd, but I'm not attuned to the minutiae of variations.

Have you fixed it? Because I'm currently viewing the website and it's only got one (on both IE8 and Chrome).

May I also dare ask what is a geek, in your(s) opinions? And how does it differ from a nerd, cause I'm definitely a nerd, but perhaps not a geek. Do you have to be interested in comic books and RPG's and such, or can you just become a geek-by-default? All things being equal, nerd is more euphonically pleasing.

I've never met misogynist geeks, but perhaps I'm too inexperienced.

Writers (if such a dignified term could be applied to the modern mass-producers of culture) like Amanda Marcotte, frighten the majority of men into silence on these kinds of issues, since we can't express our opinions without being called "mega-doucebags", or having our opinions laced with lurid mentions of sex. It's not like a man has ever desired a deep interpersonal connection with someone else. According to Marcotte, even the most sensitive of men are only interested in colonizing some more territory. Not only that. These sociological perspectives that are coming from every side of the argument (e.g. Miguel, Marcotte) are becoming vaguer and vaguer every day, relying on the bits of dust that float their way from the detritus of gender relations, instead of giving us specific examples that could be analyzed for what their worth; they further distance their opinion from the day to day machinations of life. Instead of making generalizations, why can't we just evaluate each case as it goes on? Instead of saying that all women require men with confident assholes, the writer could appreciate the number of soft factors that actually go into sexualpolitik. I apologize to Warren if my reconciliatory tone is too similar to his.

Not everyone is terribly involved, or seeks education about, their election. Yet their vote counts the same as those people who proceed with caution into the playing field, not relying solely on the television to inform them (like yourself). Voters are misguided by the attribution and source of political advertisements, and by easing in the large amounts of corporate wealth the Supreme Court has allowed pre-election campaigning to become a capitalist competition. Whichever candidate can make the most favorable backroom deals with corporations will obtain their previously unauthorized support. Perhaps your thinking won't be "altered", but these kinds of changes will make a difference in the aggregate population.

Whoops. I didn't figure for that one. She should still make it more appealing for adults. Her cartoons and narration are a tad bit post-modernist, the art style of which I am a sworn enemy. I know as a child, some of my favorite reading besides Harry Potter and such were the verbatim Supreme Court decisions, especially the O'Connor and Rehnquist opinions, in "Constitutional Rights of Prisoners" by Palmer. Something like this would have made it easier to digest, and at the same time exposed me to the more recent rulings that weren't prisoner related. People really should be more in touch with the Supreme Court, which is amazingly the only governmental institution that requires actual experience and education in place of demagoguery to be appointed. Don't even mention Glenn Beck to me. He's the largest nexus of stupidity in the United States. HE"S trying to brainwash children via their parents into being conformist, mediocre drones who can't analyze issues for themselves unless a theatrical clown on TV does it for them, all the while making the fine institution of Socialism into a dirty word. It's quickly turning into the N-word of politics. By the way, I'm loving this IntenseDebate for a couple of reasons: 1, it keeps me logged in all the time with zero effort. 2 Very attractive interface, with lots of fun buttons to press. Last but not least, if I accidentally close or refresh the window, it doesn't delete my painstakingly worked-out comment (which used to happen to me all the time.)

If people even think of modifying the 14th amendment, then we'd be opening it up to attack from conservatives who want to deny legal citizens their rights! Shame on the Supreme Court (with whom I have a love-hate relationship) for ruling this way. We will be further in the clutches of News Corporation and the like (which is a shame because I really enjoyed Black Swan, and the like)

Her tone is too patronizing for me to bear. You can't have change without sacrifice, and something must be sacrificed to wrest control of our government from corporations, no matter what partisan belief you subscribe to. However, some of the beliefs she espouses against the dangers of profit and self-interest might be too much to ask for the majority of American's who are not socialist. It could be a matter of shutting down the government through protests and requiring painstaking but snail-slow transparency in our government. If people could be shown what a difference it could make in their lives, they might be willing to participate (gasp!) in the administration of their government.

Kelly the affirmed single woman who works at the reproductive rights non-profit? I don't even believe she exists. She's just another non-existent hypothetical woman (HypoWoman) who's been exploited by maliscious bloggers like Katie Roiphe. (¿Roy-f, Rwa-f, Other?) I have a problem with noisy clothes too. My the metal button on my jeans is often a-clicketing 'n' a-clacketing on the walls of the dryer. It's a perfectly valid anecdote to share with people. They're making up these stories about these uber-woman because they can't prove their convictions with regular folk! Nevermind the Proust-abuse! Once again, they decide that only beautiful, educated, and young woman are worth even talking about, because goodness knows that the only interesting and worthwhile women worth are (attributes listed above.) I see a coronary in my future.

Don't open up another can of worms with "emasculate". All the posts have been updated with IntenseDebate, so for the love of god don't change it! You don't want to get accused of being a panderer like John Kerry. I noticed that all the comments have been erased, however. Those were pretty valuable comments, elucidating the viewpoints of your faithful readers. Is there someway you could put those back on while leaving the IntenseDebate on for the new ones? I don't know anything about how blogs work, so I apologize if I'm asking for a miracle. Congratulations on going from a -46 to a -42.
