I'm from Florida. I've gone swimming in lakes that have alligators, walked on prairie trails by alligators, lived/worked close to alligators. It is common. I could easily have been attacked by an alligator at some point in my life, and if I had, I would hope that people's reaction would be something kinder than "Oh, well. She was stupid enough to swim in there. She deserved it." I guess it's been a long week and this was just the thing that set me OFF.

Y'all, I'm in a Facebook commenting fight right now about the little boy who was killed by an alligator in Orlando. It's my first FB fight because normally I get quietly upset/flabbergasted about things people say but choose not to engage, but I just COULD NOT with this rant about blaming the parents.

It turned out fine! I emailed the event coordinator (who'd made the initial request) and politely said that I would not be able to help with the dishes, and then I got kinda drunk and danced a lot, and I had a good time.

Opinion poll: Sending an email to some-- not even all-- of the bridesmaids in next weekend's wedding, some of whom are traveling cross-country to attend, asking if they wouldn't mind getting up early the day after the wedding to clean, dry, and organize all the dishes from a reception with 100+ guests, because you just found out the caterers don't do it, but it's not even like this is a budget-conscious wedding where cost-cutting is desperately needed.

Donna's Donuts is like 10 minutes from my house sooooo I know what I'll be doing this weekend!

(I've never been much of a donut person, perhaps because I've only really had Dunkin-type ones before. Maybe this will fix it?)

Agreed. Normally I think MalPrudie's responses are spot-on, but I found this one surprisingly harsh.
