I don't know what I'd use them for, but now I kind of want them.

I received from The Toast the important reminder that "Life Is A Rich Tapestry." I tend to get worked up about whether or not other people are Doing Life Correctly (i.e. the way I would like them to) and The Toast helped me realize that you know what? That's a waste of my energy, and it doesn't really help anyone. Certainly doesn't help me! It has been really freeing to remind myself of the rich tapestry of life.

Thank you to everyone who helped make The Toast what it is, which includes not only the awesome editors and staff but also the fantastically talented writers and lovely commenters. Every one of you has brought me so much joy and taught me so much. This site is one of the rare places on the internet that has enriched my life with humor, taught me things I did not know, and changed my world view for the better.

Now if you'll excuse me, I'm going to spend the rest of the day blasting "Take It Easy" and drinking wine.

Yes, just want to echo that I work in a legal-adjacent field, and not only are most interns (aka summer associates) paid handsomely, but they are very much learning to be a lawyer, which is not experience that can be gained through either law school or passing the bar. In fact, I assumed this might be a legal job, given the conservative dress code which would fit in with what I have heard about the corporate culture in big law.

Re: "meeting by the lions" - in a similar vein, do not agree to meet someone in Grand Central in New York "by the big clock," because you'll spend at least fifteen minutes meandering through the tourists in a circle trying to find them and eventually realize the two of you have been on opposite sides of said clock, walking in the same direction, and thereby missing each other.

Oh my god, I had never read the animal rescue application piece, and I am so glad you brought it to my attention, because forms like that are the reason I felt incredibly anxious while filling out the forms to adopt my cat. It turned out the rescue was actually just asking questions like "do you have a vet" so that they could be like "here's how to find a vet! here are some recommendations!" I felt just a bit ridiculous afterwards.
