Well done Dr Beck for highlighting yet again the Government's lacking of understanding and joined up thinking about the housing market. Their incessant dabbling just makes the situations odds for those at the lowest end of the market.

So a 5, 6, 7, ... HMO releases 1 property but 4, 5, 6, 7, ... households. Net increase in demand

Someone has to fill the gap between current demand and the current supply, if the Government, Local authorities, Housing association won't/can't then other private landlords who else?
Non public organisations will want to make a profit (else why would they invest?) even Housing Associations make a profit -they just call it a "surplus" as they're not supposed to make a profit.

All roads lead back to Government.

What you describe is the exception not the rule, you should not tar all Landlords with the same brush.

There are bad apples in all walks of life.

"I would have thought this was obvious."

Not to politicians, especially those in the pockets of Shelter and Generation Rent.

perhaps Servalan1 will provide a bed/home as he/she is so dead against the Government spending money with private landlords to do so,

Spot on!

It's about time rogue tenants were stopped getting away scot-free with defaulting on rent payments & damaging property. Deductions from benefits and/or attachments to earnings should be automatic plus CCJ and entry onto a rogue tenant database.
