LCD TV's with CCFL (cold cathode fluorescent lamps) consume more energy than the newer LED LCD TVs. The only difference between the two is the backlighting. Most LCD TVs now use CCFL for backlighting and the LED TVs uses well, LED's for backlighting. This results in an average of about 35%-40% less power usage. Having said that,. I DON"T think the government has any business dictating which one to use. The free market would have eventually switched to LED LCD TVs on it's own and the CCFL LCD TVs would be obsolete. All which would have probably happened by 2013 anyway. This is a free market society and the government needs to stay out of it.
