former single terms SDP councillor Baron Adonis was made a peer in May 2005 under Blair to serve as a Minister though he had to wait for Brown's patronage to be elevated to the Cabinet in 2009. Mandelson too had 3 cabinet roles after being made a peer in 2008.

We're not selling the fish to the EU yet we're allowing EU boats a competitive advantage.

Leave the fish the EU want like shellfish squid crustaceans and sand eels in the sea. They are each fish food for some of the white fish species we do want like cod and haddock so we can expect stocks to pick up

isn't it more accurate to say that currently our standards and regs are identical as we haven't changed any yet?

So that should mean that EU bans on "third country" products are already reciprocated so the stuff they have "banned" like unfrozen sausage and processed meats are also illegal as imports to the UK. Yet we aren't applying our own rules. I saw German made unfrozen Bratwurst in Aldi yesterday

The EU have not and cannot now ratify the "trade deal". They cannot ratify by the end of the month as there is no sitting of the EU Parliament.

The deal can only be provisionally applied until 28th February unless another date is agreed by the Partnership Council.

But there is no scheduled meeting of the Partnership Council before the expiry of that date and the EU's representation has not been finalised. Lord Frost the Uk's co-chair doesn't start until 1st March.

No one else has the power to vary that date - it's a date in an international treaty so changing the date by other means is a variation of a treaty not the application of its terms and would thus be ultra vires.

It's an ideal opportunity to suspend the deal or any parts we don't like. Starting with revoking fishing licences.

the NHS is an "institution" which isn't really much of a tangible institution at all. It's really a mechanism for payment for services provided by a variety of other institutions and contractors including GP's, pharmacists, dentists, etc.

HS3 is important but should have been prioritised over HS1 which is not. They are not dependent on each other as they serve different needs.

don't forget the one sided provision of health care by the NHS when Eire doesnt offer free at the point of use provision. Many Irish citizens (along with many ex pats) retain registration with a UK GP so they can always fall back on taxpayer funding without contribution.

Hasn't the SNP brought in advisers from the USA to advise them on NHS reforms? Where's that going then?

The "trade deal" can be provisionally applied only until 28th February unless ratified or a different date is agreed in the Joint Partnership Council. The EU haven't ratified it, and whilst they seek an extension haven't agreed their own representative in the Partnership Council which isnt sufficiently constituted to consider an extension.

Just say no. Suspend the trade deal and as the Protocol was contingent on a good faith trade deal suspend that too pending ratification.

there is nothing to suggest that Sunak or anyone else in the Treasury is interested in tax reform or simplification. Quite the opposite.
