Big Government : 30 Things You Must Do BEFORE a Hurricane: Come On Irene!

No hurricanes here, but tornados and floods. Floods tend to bring out the predators, vermin and other animals you won't want on your property or in your house. I've stocked up on a variety of ammo (including snake-shot & buckshot) for all our firearms. Also, I've scanned all important documents from my files. Also documented all property with digital camera and video. One USB thumb drive holds: insurance, personal property, medical records, prescriptions, banking information, birth certificates, social security cards, diplomas and the family photos. In case of flood or fire, it's also good to send a copy (on DVD, memory cards or thumb drive) to an offsite family member or trusted friend.

Big Peace : The Life of Wylie: Canine Cruelty By Our 'Afghan Allies'

Someone remind me again about the "equal value of diverse cultures". I used to say (by way of expressing my frustration with the Afghans) that we should pull out our troops and nuke the site from orbit. I'm revising that now. We should pull out the troops AND the innocent four-legged animals... then nuke the site.

Big Hollywood : Today's Open Thread: #21 Greer Garson

I had the privilege of getting to know Mrs. Fogelson (aka Greer Garson) during the last years of her life. By the time I met her, she was a lovely (and somewhat mischievous) elderly lady. She would often invite repairmen and other workers to have a soda, tea or coffee and visit with her. She made them feel as if their lives and thoughts were truly of interest to her and she would remember their names weeks later if they were called again. She was a gracious and caring example of true class.

Breitbart.tv : *Live Stream* Memorial for Victims of Arizona Massacre

Looking at the congresswoman's husband I can't help wondering how he feels about this inappropriate memorial pep rally. If it were my loved one, I would prefer to be back at the hospital watching over them. When did the dignity of a memorial service become a whooping, hollering hootenanny? Just unspeakably tacky.

Big Peace : NORAD Santa Tracker

NORAD announced Santa's progress on the radio when I was a very young child. My daughter saw NORAD track his progress on TV when she was young. My grandchildren, and now my great-granddaughter, see Santa's travel via their internet connection. NORAD has helped keep the Santa magic in our family's Christmas for four generations.

Big Hollywood : Sarah Palin Responds to Cultural Bigot Aaron Sorkin

I have to agree. Love the article. It's dead on, but the "redneck/soul food" comment shows a lack of understanding of rednecks... and soul food... and Southern culture in general. But us Southerners won't hold it against Mr. Nolte. We know it's just because he's forced to spend too much time surrounded by Hollywood liberals. ;)

Breitbart.tv : Nail Salon Charges Extra for Overweight Customers

I agree 100% about the extra fee. The chair is either safe or it isn't. Charging extra for an "unsafe" use of the chair is greedy and an unwise business decision.

I would consider it a safety measure for the customer's welfare if they appeared to be that heavy. But then, I don't have a problem with profiling that's based on reasonable standards and probabilities. Common sense still has value, in spite of the PC left's attempts to outlaw it.

FYI - The chair appears to be a La Bella Whirlpool. Those are rated for a maximum weight of 350 lbs. If the customer weighed more than 350, the salon owner would be negligent in allowing her to sit on it. If she weighed less than 350, there should be no problem providing her pedicure.

Big Government : NEA Conference Call: Get ‘em While They’re Young Mr. President

A favorite saying: 'You can lead a horse to water, but you cannot make him drink. You can send a kid to college, but you cannot make him think.' ...But, you can feed the kids facts. My 16yo granddaughter looks like a typical teen in her low-cut jeans, hoodie and Hatchetman necklace, but she's now as conservative as any of us. Why? She learned the government is planning to ban her great-grandfather's cherry-vlavored cigars & taxing her beloved sodas. She's earning herown money & has discovered her purchases are taxed. She wants a job, but the minimum wage increase has reduced the job market for teens. She's realized what a socialist economy will do to her ability to earn enough to supply her shoe-buying habit. Suddenly she's somewhere between conservative and libertarian... in spite of the media's efforts to indoctrinate her. She's challenging her high school teachers with facts and figures about healthcare & other domestic policies and converting her friends one by one. There is hope. Give the kids a glimpse of their future under Big Government's thumb and they will rise up with us.

Big Hollywood : Patrick Swayze Died Today

I met Patrick when we were teens in Houston. My best friend took ballet lessons from his mom, Patsy. He neverl allowed Hollywood or fame to change his basic down-to earth character. He remained a humble, genuine person. The Swayzes were and remain, salt of the earth. He will be missed.

Big Hollywood : Hollywood Unveiled: John Wayne Walks Like a Girl

My former husband had a "John Wayne Walk". The first time I saw him in his Army uniform, I was a goner. He was tall and built like John Wayne. In the jungles of Vietnam, he learned to walk quietly toes-first. Add to that, a bad knee and western boots with a walking heel... and you get "the walk"... irresistable.

Big Hollywood : The Most Powerful Weapon

Thank you so much for writing the facts about Hiroshima and Nagasaki. My dad passed away last December at age 84. He married my mother and joined the US Army Air Corps in 1943 just before his high school graduation. The Corps allowed him leave to return to Memphis, Texas for his graduation. He was also honored to accept diplomas on behalf of the other young graduates who were in the military and unable to attend. Daddy received his pilots wings in 1945 and was sent to Laurinburg-Maxton, NC for glider pilot training. He was trained to fly a glider filled with troops and gear into Japan, land in one piece (if possible), fight their way out and defeat the Japanese. Less than 10% were expected to survive. The mission was canceled after the bombs fell and Japan surrendered. No doubt the use of fission bombs at Hiroshima and Nagasaki saved the lives of my father, those troops and many more, including Japanese. Odds are, my sisters and I would have been born if they had not been used. How many families have their lives and freedom because Truman ordered the use of those bombs?

Big Hollywood : Let's Rename It Jackass Hill

I didn't intend to "call you out". I just figured I would share the animal husbandry info for those who might not know. (I definitely need smiley faces on my posts. There isn't a tongue in cheek font!) Personally, I think 0 is more of a mule than a jackass... mixed parentage, sterile (can't produce) and more easily lead (by Soros) than a horse. His wife, though, fits the jackass in both appearance and temperament.

A mule is not a jackass. A jackass is a male donkey. A mule is the result of breeding a mare (female horse) and a jack aka jackass(male donkey) . Mules are almost always sterile. If you want to know about livestock (and political jackasses ) ask a Texas girl. :)
