GazetteOnline.com : Man struck along Interstate 380 in good condition

This may go back to one of the first lessons preached by Mom.......always look both ways before crossing.....and maybe another.....always wear clean underwear. Very good to hear he's okay though. Hate to see someone get burned for trying to help someone.

GazetteOnline.com : Bulaga's mother weighs in on son's football future

I may be taking something out of context but her last comment...."we wouldn't have traded it for anything"......sure seems like past tense to me. Does she know something and slip a little maybe? I sure hope not. It would be simply fantastic to have him (and Spievey) back with Claiborne again next year and make another big run at the Big Ten title and beyond.

Hopefully, Claiborne's decision to stay will help us keep Bulaga and Spievey for another year. We'll be extremely tough next year if they all come back......Here's to hoping !!!!

Ugh.....Don't really mind the snow so much...except for the crazies that can't drive in it, but I could surely do without extreme cold. Mid 20's to mid 30's is fine by me.

GazetteOnline.com : Davenport man charged for assaulting woman while visiting their child at hospital

WOW......Some very strong judgments in here today from some very high quality people apparently. I'm assuming ya'll know the people in this story??? You must....how else could you say these things without feeling a bit idiotic yourself.....okay, not totally true....it's pretty easy to pass judgement on young Deon. One can pretty much assume about him after what he did. But the mother ??? How does anyone here know who she is. Would you be saying these things if I told you that she is a 19 year old white girl from a wealthy family??.....or maybe she is a little older and responsibe (for the most part...minus the getting knocked up by an 18 year old) with a good job and a decent life. Granted, unlikely scenarios, but possibilities none the less. It seems a bit ridiculous to pass judgement on this woman/girl based on only one irresponsible fact.....that she went and got pregnant from some 18 year old apparent thug.

I don't know you but the idiocy of your comment makes you as big a dumba** as the moron in the story. But it's all good.......I'm sure idiocy is your only flaw.

GazetteOnline.com : Should Tiger Woods say more about his crash?

You are correct....they do. However, from the start, being under the influence of anything was not a big concern. The main reason they are after hospital records is to see the origin of his injuries. The toxicology is a sidebar compared to the injuries. Besides, nothing in my comments said the the police didn't have a right to be doing what they are doing. I simply stated that they are not giving him preferential treatment (and may be going to the other extreme) because it's Tiger Woods.

The fact that he is "being allowed" to not talk to police about the accident has nothing to do with him being a celebrity. The law there does not require a police interview. In no way is this thing being played out as Tiger being above the law. He has done what is required by law. If anything, the cops are going further than they might with a "normal" person by trying to subpoena his hospital records. He did not leave the scene, he didn't hit another vehicle or person and therefore has no obligation to interview with police. I'm sure they can hit him with a ticket for not maintaining control, but they are digging for more. I don't really care much about what happens in this deal in the end (although it is somewhat entertaining, which is why I'm paying attention), but many people posting on this situation need to get their facts straight before saying he is being treated better than we would. It's probably worse for him. No one....not even police (in my opinion).....would be paying this much attention if it wasn't Tiger Woods.

GazetteOnline.com : Iowa players see progress despite loss

I agree that we should be seeing signs of real improvement by the third year with Lick at the helm but at the same time, this is not the third year of players that most third year coaches enjoy. This team has been revamped each year he has been here due to transfers etc. so he really hasn't had the opportunity to coach anything close to the same team two years in a row. Hopefully this young team will stick together. If they do, then we'll be able to see what kind of coach we have. Until then I don't think it's fair to pass judgement even though I'm as hungry as anyone to see a good product on the floor. As a side note, next year's freshman class is a very strong group as well. Just a little more patience from us and then we'll see the real answers.

GazetteOnline.com : If Iowa wins out, should they play for a title?

I know most of us are going to be homers here and vote yes on this question. I don't know if we'd be outclassed or not in a title game, but I think we deserve a shot (if we win out) and here's why. It's very simple to me.....We have a way tougher schedule than any of the other current unbeatens and most of the 1 or 2 loss teams. We may not have looked great getting to where we are but none the less, we are here and have fought a gruelling schedule to get here. That should be rewarded.

GazetteOnline.com : Hlas: Iowa? In the BCS title game? Well, of course

The last thing we need to do now is start talking National Championship. I'm with Kirk on staying level headed for now. No sense in getting psyched up this early with the potential for being disappointed with what will end up as a fantastic season regardless. 12-0 would be awesome, but really, if someone told us we could be 11-1 or even 10-2 at the beginning of the season we would have taken it without question. Let's all have our dream (which is a very achievable dream), and our goosebumps just thinking about it, but for now let's dream it quietly. Let's not wake up Ohio State for the next to last game of the season. Maybe if we're quiet they won't notice we're undefeated when we arrive at that horrible Horseshoe........

GazetteOnline.com : Iowa moving up in national polls

I think that it is a very distinct possibility although I think they will lose to PSU before we get to them. Honestly, I'm more scared of the next two games at Wisc. and MSU than I am of the Horseshoe. We also need to find a way to start dominating some of these games. We need some losses from top 5 teams for us to have a prayer of a championship game though. Even if we run the table, we won't be able to crack the top 3 unless they lose. There's a lot of football to be played so I guess we'll see what happens.

I'm a pretty big Hawk homer but I can't totally agree with you on this. If you look at who some of these teams have beaten and who they lost to, most probably do deserve to be where they are. The no brainer is VTech, who lost to Bama the first game of the season and has beaten two top 25 teams since. You can't fault LSU too much for losing a close game to #1 in the country. Can't argue too much against Miami. Their loss was to VT and they've handled a tough schedule otherwise. I hate USC, but believe they deserve a high ranking despite the slip up, even though other teams may not get the freebie. OSU is questionable, but they have been dominant on the scoreboard even though Wisconsin dominated them on the field. Our beloved Hawks aren't in the top ten because we have yet to show dominance outside of the Penn St. game. We've been pushed, and pushed hard by 3 unranked FBS teams. Not trying to be a downer. I want us to have our shot, but I don't think our ranking is unfair. A couple more weeks will tell the tail. Two more W's for the Hawks and we should be top 6 or 7 at least.
