*I* haven't been, but two of my driver's side mirrors have. The first instance, I woke up one Saturday morning last July to the dulcet tones of the house shaking like it had been hit by a train. Turns out that the city's paving contractor decided 7AM Saturday was the perfect time to start repaving my street. No warning beforehand to residents, 90% of whom street park. I spent most of the morning bitching and moaning about the noise, the smell and the fact that I couldn't move the truck now if I wanted to, as I was pinned in by paving equipment. The pavers half-assed it ‘til around noon, at which point I went out for a grocery run. I noticed the shattered glass on the ground and the mirror dangling and it was pretty clear that the paving guys were the guilty party. I called the police to file a report and was taking pictures of the damage when I was nearly run down by a meth-head running at least 50 down the middle of my very narrow 25MPH street. The side of my white truck and the backs of my legs were peppered with loose aggregate from the still-curing pavement. My diplomatic skills being top-notch, I immediately screamed for Ms. Methmouth to "SLOW THE FUCK DOWN! THIS IS A GODDAMN RESIDENTIAL NEIGHBORHOOD!" She slammed on the brakes, reversed in the middle of the road and started screaming at me that she didn't appreciate me "using that kind of fucking language in front of my motherfucking child." There was a slightly terrified looking 4-ish year old strapped in the back and an equally-methed-out passenger throwing out epithets that would have made a Russian mobster blush. I cordially invited her to leave my street, but she insisted she was calling the police on me. I informed her that "they're on their way for my mirror, so save yourself a phone call." A couple minutes later, 2 police cars arrive. Ms. Methmouth is still sitting in the middle of the road and starts screaming at the cops as they tell her to please pull over to the side. One cop asks just to take the hit & run report so he can GTFO ("The Sarge can deal with that crazy woman...") and he was on his way. The Sergeant came over and with a sigh said "Did you tell her to 'slow the fuck down?'" I said yes. He said "I would have too. You probably should be more careful about that though." At this point, Methmouth peeled off, sending more gravel flying. The Sergeant sighed again, said "Sorry about your mirror. Have a nice day" jumped in his car and took off after his new best friend. The police blotter suggested she got popped about 3/4 mile away for reckless driving and possession. The city never did respond to my request that they pay for my new mirror.
