/Film : WB's Live-Action Akira Remake Is Dead?

Part of the problem is that the story is extremely, extremely dense. Now you COULD thin the story somewhat by dropping some of the more out-there elements, but then you're not making Akira anymore. Given the economic situation right now, you're not likely to get a project like this greenlit.

/Film : Is Drag Me To Hell Really About A Girl With An Eating Disorder?

Different way to see the movie. That said, I wouldn't give Raimi that much credit. He's a smart writer/director, but he gets his kicks foremost from grossing out and scaring folks.

/Film : Comparing the BBFC and the MPAA, and How Antichrist Illustrates The Differences

I don't know...seeing genitalia mutilation up close might be harmful to this adult. Geez! That said, if the movie is the vision of the director, then show it. Make it so that adults can see it -- because this is clearly a work for adults -- and let that be that. The problem of course isn't the rating, but the marketing. An NC-17 rating means theaters won't show it since it won't generate the amount of money per showing than giving another screen to G-Force would.

/Film : Bryan Singer Fancies Another Go At The X-Men And Superman

Wait...what's with the hatred for X-Men and X2? Singer actually did more right by them than any hack could have done (I'm looking at you, Rattner). Fact is that with over 50 years of history and over a 100 characters to choose from, Singer nailed the core aspects of the X-Men mythos. That counts for a lot. His problem on Superman Returns was his inability to detach his movie from the Donner/Salkind series. Instead of it being a true reboot, it was a half-hearted attempt to keep something going that had run its course. Instead of giving us Darkseid, Doomsday or anything else intriguing, he went back to Luthor and his land grabs. And then shoved emotion where it wasn't needed by giving us Superkid.

/Film : JJ Abrams Says Shatner and Khan Are Possible in Star Trek Sequel

Personally I think the villains for the inevitable Part 2 should be the Klingons, given that they were the traditional baddies in classic Star Trek. Now the intriguing concept is that this crew has yet to meet Khan at all (as depicted in the episode "Space Seed." ) So that right there could be the way to go with the inevitable Part 3 -- young Khan (Bardem is a GREAT idea) vs young Kirk. It could be similar to how the Joker upped the stakes for Batman, in that in Khan there's a mirror and opposite image of what Kirk could be. And the end could be left so that the events in Wrath of Khan could still be postulated as having occurred as we remember them.

Very lyrical and beautiful book. Quick read too. But a dark, grim, sad tale. BTW, the pistol they have is for them to kill one another should they be trapped by any of the cannibal gangs roaming the land. I'm looking forward to this movie.

I loved the "Squirrel!" part. Loved the attention to detail on how Dug starts slowly shaking his tail again first and then goes back to giving all his attention to the humans. Pixar has yet to go wrong for me (yes, even with Cars) so I'll be there for this no doubt.

I will watch this. Of that there is no doubt. I do like that the fights look shot with an eye towards letting us see the fight itself -- none of the quick cut crap that permeates too many action films. As for comparisons to Jaa and Ong Bak, too soon. Let's see the movie before we pigeonhole it.
