KCRG : Many Cedar Rapids Pet Owners Like License Idea | KCRG-TV9 | Cedar Rapids, Iowa News, Sports, and Wea

I am a pet owner and I oppose the idea. The only individuals that will pay to license their pets are responsible pet owners - how do they plan on enforcing this? Oh I know since police officers have so much spare time now (since the city now uses red light cameras and speed cameras) this frees up a lot of the officers time so they can walk around the check out the collars of pets for their soon to be required tag.

I agree with the farmers - leave the land alone - it is being productive as is. Besides it seems like IA has enough rest stops - more so than a lot of other states I've driven through

If the officer was coming up behind her - how can she play the race card? She was being pulled over for having too dark of tinted windows - obviously the police officer couldn't see what sex or race the driver was. This lady should lose her job with the Iowa Lega Aid as well.

KCRG : Corbett Makes No Apologies in Keeping City Manager Hire Private | KCRG-TV9 | Cedar Rapids, Iowa News

Under the current form of city government it seems to me that each member of the city council including the mayor are suppose to have equal voting power and yet it seems that Ron Corbett is acting as a full time mayor in a part-time position. He is putting himself above the rest. I don't trust him - we must remember that is has and always will be a full-time politician and shouldn't be trusted.

That hotel needs so much to bring it up to normal standards - I feel it would be a waste of my taxpayer money. I never recommend that hotel to anyone - what with trains going past there in the middle of the night and cars riding down 1st Ave with loud radios booming away - I say if we have extra money laying around lets use it first to do something with the areas where homes use to stand in the flooded out areas.

I know one should laugh at how stupid the woman reacted but thankfully nothing serious happened while she was wasting valuable dispatcher time. I hope she gets in serious trouble for overreaction. I also think that they should seriously think about removing that boy from her residence - obviously she has a screw loose and she is causing him damage by parenting him the way she is. She is a very bad example.

I had to laugh out loud when I read your first paragraph about Connie Huber - I'm glad that someone else thinks like I do about her. How she ever got that position I don't know because a Human Resource Director she is not. Was the city desperate when they put her in that position? When she is finally called upon to do her job she openly admits that it is over her head and yet she is kept on. I suppose now we will have to hire someone to assist - I say while hiring someone to search for a new city manager have them look for a new HR Director as well - and this time get someone with true HR qualifications.

Not only are groups lobbying behind the scene but the council itself has been caught holding meetings which should be open meetings but aren't - they get caught and then they apologize and say they didn't realize they were violating the open meeting laws and they get away with it. One of the bloggers hit the nail on the head when they mentioned "Ethics" - seems like they aren't doing things the ethical way - and people wonder why they don't trust sitting members of the government and turn to groups like the Tea Party movement.

I'm sure that Ron Corbett already has someone in mind as to who he wants as City Manager - just as he had in mind who he wanted to handle the Event Center Project. Looks like we've gone back a few years to the good old boy system - you scratch my back and I'll scratch yours. And Ron is able to put a spin on it by saying "hey it's legal - Cities, are allowed to pick a firm to provide professional services without seeking proposals from other firms, adding that it is not an uncommon practice." But what he doesn't like to emphazise is the fact that this firm stands to make 3,8 million by being awarded this contract. Wake up Cedar Rapids - you can go to the bank betting that the next city manager will have connections with Ron or someone connected to the Chamber of Commerce.

All I'm saying is when you are throwing figures out like spending 50 million plus on a convention center and 15 million on upgrade to US Cellular Center and awarding it to a predesignated individual/firm things smell fishy and yu should make sure that you dot all your I's and cross all your Ts correctly so that something doesn't come back and bite you.

I always thought that it was required for projects this large to be put in a bid process - that otherwise it looks like the politician is doing something illegal. I mean the man has wonderful qualifications but is he the best for the price? It seems that Ron Corbett is not following all the rules like he should.
There is something seriously wrong with the justice system when someone such as this individual can manipulate the system to his advantage. Meanwhile we are having to pick up his tab while he continues to live off of us. I know an individual is innocent till proven guilty but continuing to put off his trial so he can live in a nicer facility than what he knows he has coming is ridiculous. There should be a limit as to how many times you can reject a court appointed lawyer especially when you aren't paying him/her anything - we the citizens are.

First off we know what Justin Shields vested interest is foremost - he is a big union man and he sees jobs for his folks. Secondly when that stadium was built they installed the latest and greatest scoreboard at the time and that one cost almost a million dollars so who is to say what the next one will cost. if memory serves me correctly when they built the new stadium a metal roof was installed - and yet now they have major leakage problems? And there is a problem with a heating and A/C system that is only 8 years old? Come on now I put in a new heating and A/C in my home 15 years ago and it is going strong. I say lets go back to the original contractor/builder and question their shoddy workmanship. Does the stadium not have a continual maintenance program - if not they should.
