I wouldn't say that. It is, however, a testament to videogames' legitimacy as an art form.

After watching this, a part of me died inside. I can understand why A.R. Rahman cooperated with this (I mean, he must have been getting offers left and right after the Oscars), but I still think it sucks and is a strike against his integrity. Also, it is pronounced "Jie Ho" not "Jay Ho" you stupid bastards.

Film School Rejects : Catfights and Clyde: And Other Remake Related Issues

Hilary Duff, you spiteful Disney Bitch, eat a dick. Honestly, Hollywood sucks ass. First a The Thing prequel/'re-imagining' (complete with an absolutely nonsensical appearance of R.J. MacReady's brother) now this shit. While Hilary's at it, Hollywood can also eat a dick.

Film School Rejects : Discuss: Should Megan Fox Tomb Raid as Lara Croft?

Really, Lara Croft has never been a nuanced protagonist, in either movies or games. You could use any hot starlet to portray her and tah-dah,mission accomplished, watch the money flow in.

Film School Rejects : Watchmen Settlement Details

I'm glad it's all over, but still, the entire thing was a dick move on Fox's part (just because they were in the right legally doesn't keep it from being a dick move). Also, I hope that the fact Fox gets "gross participation in any sequels or spin-offs" doesn't mean Fox is gonna pressure Warner into that kind of guaranteed fanboy shit storm. I'd hope most people are sensible enough to know that a sequel to Watchmen would make no fucking sense whatsoever, but I don't want to see Watchmen Origins: Rorschach come out of this whole deal.

Actually, that's a 2 disc edition, I just said 3 disc to further the point that, even if the next edition is still only 2 discs, it will still contain features not in the initial release, which will leave early adopters who actually care about supplemental material screwed.

Personally, I'm waiting for the 3 disc Blu-Ray edition coming in like 6 months. You see, it's never wise to buy the DVD of a big film or one with a massive fanboy following (this film falling into both categories) upon initial release, because the eventual double dip will make you regret it. As much as it pains me to miss out on the release of this great film, the studios and distributors have burnt me too many times on double dip in the past (case in point, the recent 300 Ultimate Edition thingy). I'll bide my time.

/Film : The /Filmcast Question of the Week: What Videogame Would Make a Good Movie Adaptation?

First of all, I'd like to say to all the people who suggested such games as Half-Life, Portal, or Bioshock that those games could not possibly work as a movie. One of the main story telling elements all those games use is the mute protagonist, which is a way for the developers to allow the player to embody the protagonist. This is why I have no faith in the upcoming Bioshock movie (that, and the fact that they'll probably target a PG-13 rating). Plus, fanboys would be pissed as hell with whatever voice they gave Gordon Freeman, I figure, he's gone for 4 games without speaking, why ever give him a voice. Also, part of what made the aforementioned Bioshock so great was the way it revealed that the player was a subservient slave to Atlas (or for that matter, the game designers) and how every action was not of the character's own accord, but because they were programmed to blindly follow the orders of Atlas without even realizing they were forced to by their mental programming. This also served as a shock to gamers when you realized that this same sort of philosophy is what guides almost all game design as we are ordered about to accomplish objectives by the game's designers and was one of the most profound moments I have ever had with a game and was a defining moment in this magnificent game. This scene, or at least, the effects it had on players of Bioshock, could not possibly be replicated by a movie. Part of what made this revelation so shocking and effective was the fact that, by having the players embody the mute protagonist, we realized that we, the players, were the ones being fucked with by Atlas. Sure, we could watch a movie where a Hollywood tough guy is told by a disembodied voice coming through a radio to do his bidding in an underwater dystopia, but it wouldn't be nearly as engrossing as the game was. Anyway, personally, if you're going to suggest an FPS for a movie, I'd go with Halo. It has a protagonist with a voice (Master Chief), a serviceable story, the game includes scenes where the player is not in the perspective of the main character, brand recognition, and it could make a pretty good R-rated Action flick. Anyway, I know that was long winded, but here is my submission. Psychonauts The film opens up at the Whispering Rock Psychic Summer Camp. Razputin, or Raz, who has just fled the circus to go to the camp in hopes of becoming a Psychonaut (a sort of psychic enforcer of justice) by honing his psychic abilities, is caught sneaking into the camp by the instructors, who immediately contact his parents to pick him up. Raz, who went to the camp against his father's wishes, pleads to the counselors to let him stay. They agree to let him stay and participate until his parents arrive. As camp classes begin, Raz is introduced to the eccentric and bizarre fellow campers (all of which are taken from the game) and begins his training under the the guidance of Coach Oleander, who immediately sees promise in the boy. Raz's various classes take place with in the minds of his teachers (Oleander, as well Sasha Nein and Milla Vodello, all of whom are Psychonauts), and the viewer is treated to the bizarre landscapes of their subconscious minds. Soon Raz meets the camps janitor/cook/waterfront coordinator/park ranger Ford Cruller, who helps him later in the film. Eventually, other campers begin acting strange, stumbling around lazily muttering "TV, TV" over and over again. Raz, through his investigating the minds of various characters, uncovers a plot by Coach Oleander to harvest the children's brains, with the assistance of the crazed dentist Dr. Loboto, to power his unstoppable army of brain controlled psychic tanks. With Coach Nein and Coach Vodello dispatched on urgent Psychonauts business, it is up to Raz, with the help of the eccentric Ford Cruller, to save the camper's brains and stop Coach Oleander's scheme. Yeah, so that's it, just basically the plot of the movie. Probably work well as an animated film. Perhaps if Tm Burton directed it, using the same sort of visual style as his "Charlie and the Chocolate Factory" film, it could be good.
