I'll admit, by this point in the book I was convinced that Dove was going to somehow become the Queen. So the only thing that surprised me was how she left, not that she did. (I was actually convinced she was going to die because of all her ranting) Dove just fit the role so much better than Sarai who was, honestly, all talk that put everyone in danger and no action to make things better. So when she left...I may have done a little happy dance because as much as I do love Sarai, Dove is my favorite and just...she's amazing!

I'm going to take Nuritin's side in this moment, in that, Sarai needed to STOP. Not because this is an issue of "respectable politics" (because if that was true I'd tell Sarai to go right ahead) but because Sarai is speaking against the royal social policies, IN THE ROYAL PALACE. Not only that but she does it in front of EVERYONE and in a room we know from previous chapters is covered in listening spells. She might as well have painted a giant neon bulls-eye on her back with a sign that said "I'm popular among the lower classes you oppress and have rebellious ideas! You regents should probably kill me now." I mean, Nomru was jailed, and his family had to go into hiding, a couple chapters ago because he said something not even half as subversive as what she says here. This is a totalitarian government masquerading as a monarchy. There is not even the PRETENSE of free speech in this place, and Sarai has next to no protection from repercussions.

On top of that we're shown in this chapter that Nuritin KNOWS how popular Sarai is with the Raka. She's not telling Sarai to stop because "we can't talk about these things, it makes people uncomfortable" or "You can't say that it's rude!" she's telling her to stop because if she doesn't she's going to get herself, and possibly the whole family, KILLED! And considering that the rebellion's leadership (both of them actually) IS her house hold...yea if the regents are feeling particularly violent Sarai's words, her "so take that" comment, could have just ended the Raka's hopes for freedom by being so reckless. That and it makes the regents look closer at their family in general. Because if Sarai feels comfortable saying something like this in the Rittivon seat of power, what must her home life and family be like? Which could uncover not only the Raka conspiracy but the Luarin one as well. Honest to god don't see this as Nuritin trying to "silence her rudeness" but trying to save Sarai, and the family as a whole, from her reactionary rashness.

Just going to say it, and I'll probably get dog piled for it, but I don't like Duncan x Veronica in the romantic sense even a little bit. In fact I find their relationship to be extremely uncomfortable and a little creepy. Again this is just me! I know some people do find I cute.
