Hi Traci,

We actually cook the eggs, crush them and feed them back to the hens. Most of the hens we rescue come from commercial egg operations. They lose a lot of calcium to laying 5 times more eggs than normal. Feeding the cooked eggs back to them helps them replenish their calcium and protein levels.

Take care,
Marji, Education Manager

Thank you so much, Deborah! It was great seeing you work your butt off during the rescue and continue to help afterwards. We hope to see you out at Rescue Ranch more - it's been amazing watching these hens, as you say, learn to be real chickens again. It is unbelievable to me that some of these hens trust us after all they have been through. Thank you for helping.

Thank you, Maddalena! We hope the owner is prosecuted and held accountable for his actions of depriving food to these hens.

Thanks, laura! We count ourselves lucky to have seen that news article two hours after it was published...otherwise, the story might have been different. We at least can find some peace and joy out of such tragedy and sorrow with the live hens who are growing stronger with each day.

Lynn, thank you for your kind words. It's been a tough few days, but we take joy in watching as these hens learn to be real chickens and enjoy life.

I'm sorry to hear about that. We too cannot imagine how he could have just walked away and stopped feeding these defenseless hens. What's worse is they were all in cages, so they were literally at our (human beings) mercy.

Kathi, thank you. It would have been just as horrific if we had backed down - we knew our supporters would never forgive us, and more importantly, we wouldn't be doing our part for the chickens. Today, one of them pecked in the dirt for the first time. She was very pleased with herself.
