When you are on the stand you can't give hearsay evidence, which is what he tried to do by stating that he was "told this information by someone". When you are on the stand you can't have a confidential source because the attorney's have the right to cross-examine all witnesses. If there were only one or two officers on for that time of shift, they certainly couldn't get all the "sloshed" people that left the bar or Blues and Brews event.
