Yea I agree the movie was entertaining and I don't regret the time I spent. My point is that the story was already told quite well in the GN and comic versions of Watchmen. The movie added nothing new. Was it a significant value add just to see the characters moving around and set to music? Was any further truth exposed? Was the action represented in a better way? I don't think so.

Look at the book 1984 and it's movie version. The movie attempts to be as close to the book as possible but falls short. Nothing new is added but much of the theme is lost in the translation between mediums. Basil on the other hand is a much better actual representation of the themes put forth in the written version of 1984 while at the same time being novel in it's approach.

Watchmen book and movie occupy the same space. They are too much the same. Not that I don't think this is great. I actually can't knock the movie because I loved the story so much. I'm just wishing that the film makers took a few more risks here.
