Glenn Beck - The 912 Project : 3/13/09 - 3/19/09

I'd suggest one definition of corruption would be for sitting members of Congress and a complicit President to force through unpopular legislation that they haven't even read. Then weeks later because they were embarassed by Sen Dodd's provision that certain government owned companies (aka AIG) could legally pay employees bonuses for performance that same Congress passes a special tax only on selected employees of that government owned company. But the tax is purely punitive in nature. It pays for nothing. To me that sounds like corruption on a level we normally on here about in third world countries like Zaire.

I'd love to get some feedback on this one... What is the purpose of taxation? How do you feel about the US House of Representatives voting for the first time in history to identify a specific group (AIG employees) and the use taxation as a punitive measure against them and only them?

Glenn Beck - The 912 Project : Stand Up & Lead - 3/13/09 - 3/23/09

Am I the only one that is sick and tired of hearing the holier than thou attitude our President and Congress are taking towards the AIG bonuses controversy? I think on this one issue alone we have grounds to push for impeachment of all of them. Here's why: - Remember the stimulus bill? You know the one. It's the one Congress just had to vote on even if there was no time to read the fine print. It's the one that was so urgent President Obama recieved it and then promptly sat on it over a three day weekend before signing it. That stimulus bill contains language specifically PROTECTING companies like AIG that want to give their execs big bonuses like this. - The administration knew about these bonuses at least a week prior. Take this point and the one above and then ask, is it not sheer idiocy then for politicians to behave as though these bonus monies are some big surprise when they (Congress and White House) knew about it all along!??!? - The number one and two recipients of AIG campaign cash were 1) Sen Dodd and 2) then Sen Obama.

I think we need to focus less on being one cohesive party - at least initially - and more as a united group of people that simply want a government that will uphold the oath they take when elected.

Glenn Beck - The 912 Project : President Obama is ready to start fund raising again.

I would argue Obama never stopped campaigning. What I'd really like to know though is who actually funded/funds Campaign Obama. There was a brief report in late Oct that security was lax on the Obama-Biden donation website and that some fraud may have occurred there. There have been concerns that he may have recieved substantial amounts of overseas money. For this guy to have raised the hundreds of millions he came up with nearly every American household would have had to have donated several hundred dollars. Yet we know that nearly every American household didn't donate. Where does his money come from?

How charitable do I feel around tax day? Let's take that question a bit further shall we? At the most fundamental level what are our taxes supposed to pay for - a government that represents our interests and responds to us right? If that is so, can we really and truly say that today March 16, 2009 any level of government in the United States represents your and my interests and responds to our concerns, complaints, and issues? It doesn't. Take my state, California for example. We're neck deep in a state deficit. Through this summer taxes and fees are going up on everything - including such nonsense as "user fees" in the three major cities of $0.25 per plastic or paper bag taken from a retailer (they want to get Californians to use burlap). And while all this is going on, Sacramento is avidly discussing new social programs and way to expand existing ones. Just last week there was a move to provide foster care for adults up to age 21...foster care...I'm not making this up. I bring up the California example because many of the hair brained government schemes are initially hatched out here and then they migrate in varying degrees eastward to other states.

Individual responsiblity is a virtue we're going to have to work very hard at restoring. For decades our entire society has shifted away from it. Nearly every breach of individual responsibility has a "cure" somewhere in society via the victimization industry and we've got to get away from that.

Interesting point FlaRooster. Last week I was driving to work in San Diego and the station I usually listen to was blocked out on the AM dial temporarily by 760AM out of Denver which may be an Air America affiliate. Something called "The Jane Harman Show" was on. I don't know who Harman is much less why she has a show but anyway, she was interviewing some big wig liberal activist. My jaw dropped when I heard this guy reveal his keys to winning a debate successfully. He said "you must shout them down", "talk over them", "don't let them be heard", and other such nonsense. It's so sad but true that the liberal agenda just doesn't hold up under scrutiny yet their only recourse is to try and silence dissent. Is it any wonder political debate these days is nearer the Sesame Street level than what our founding fathers envisioned two centuries ago.

That's an easy question maddawgg...when the left can't find anything of substance with which to criticize those they disagree with they resort to the bigotry they claim exists on the conservative side. How many times did they gripe about Mitt Romney's faith? Or Sarah Palin's church. While never raising an eyebrow towards a certain Chicago Pastor that a certain President worshipped with for 20 years and somehow never heard anything questionable shouted from the pulpit. For all their pronouncements about tolerance and inclusion the American left just might be the most narrow minded group of bigots since Germany in the 1930s.
