Their interest in which people get elected, has to be understood. Almost everything that a teacher does in his/her job is affected by elected officials-National, State , and Local I was involved with the political arm of our local and state associations (retired in 2003). We had to form Political Action Committees(PAC's) to do our politicking in. TEACHER'S DUES WERE NOT ALLOWED TO BE USED IN POLITICAL ENDEVOURS. We formed PACs to raise money for our political work. Teachers could volunarily donate money to the PAC. The Pac also held many activities and events from which they could raise political money. Always up front and out there. I don't remember if it was a national law, state law or local law that dues could not be used in political activities and there were alot of PAC's around.
