Our Future Lies in the Hands of the Young and the Foolish... If we want to change our government for the better and leave it that way, battles must be won in the classrooms. I am surrounded by thousands of people my age who are members of the infamous "me generation." The generation that will one day, lamentably, lead this country. It breaks my heart to see how terribly deceived most of them are. They honestly do believe that Obama is going to give them everything and they'll live happily ever after without any worries while everyone around them works. They never stop to think that if there are no more rich people (because they've been taxed out of business) then where are the employers? Where are the jobs? Where oh where did all the rich people go that were giving us their money? I am fed up with listening to comments like "I was so excited when Obama won that I nearly wet myself" from ignoramuses trying to win popularity contests in class. Sadly, with the overwhelming majority of teachers being liberals, kids are taught at a very young age what they "should believe" instead of how TO THINK. In school I was taught that everyone's a winner, you can't fail high school (no matter how hard you try your diploma is worth the same as the alternative schooler next to you who did 1/4 the work) and political correctness. At home I was taught the value of hard work and the importance of motivation through competition (a.k.a that cruel concept of capitalism). If the person working 12hr days is making the same amount of money as the guy leeching off of him why would anyone want to work? The only solution to this problem that I can think of is to get rid of public school systems completely. Somehow we have to end the motivation for the promotion of big government. If anyone has any other ideas on how to improve the school systems I would love to hear them.

Do we still have a 2nd amendment? Yes, but Western Oregon University won't teach you that. Recently Jeffrey Maxwell, a student at WOU, was arrested for carrying a pistol on campus. Not only did he have a concealed carry permit, but he served in the Marine Corps for six years as a lance corporal. For this unthinkable crime of exercising his 2nd amendment right he was suspended and must be subject to a psychological evaluation. In addition, he must write a ten page paper including: 1) the importance of following the law, even through civil disobedience. 2) the importance of accepting responsibility for one's actions 3) and recognizing the impact possession of weapons on college campuses has on others." (<a href="http://oregonfirearms.org/alertspage/02.10.09" target="_blank">http://oregonfirearms.org/alertspage/02.10.09 a... What has happened to this poor guy is detestable. God Bless men like him who would stand in the way of anyone trying to pull a Virginia Tech on us. Without the 2nd Amendment, we're all a bunch of sitting ducks waiting for some crazy to walk in who knows we're all helpless against him/her. A criminal is someone who breaks laws, what makes people so sure that they won't break a no-gun law? I am 20 years old and still waiting for my 21st birthday when the government tells me it's okay to exercise my second amendment right to carry a handgun. I also attend WOU and take comfort in knowing that people like Maxwell are still out there to protect themselves and those around them from delinquents. I hope I never have to watch 32 people die while waiting for a police officer to show up and stop the killer.

I'm sorry, but what part of freedom is an "abstract" term? Freedom is simply the lack of restriction. So, would it not follow that it could be taken away by placing more and more restrictions on citizens? Why don't you ask someone who has risked their life fighting for YOUR freedom if its an abstract concept. Grow up Elliot. If you want to be taken care of move back in with your mommy.
