Have you tried the new 'new adult' genre? Some of them are based on college and they are meant for years 18-24ish. Wow that makes me feel old since in a few months I will no longer belong to that category.

Good luck on your college adventures!

I had the same thoughts. I love Pride and Prejudice and sometimes it made me laugh sometimes I wanted him to stop interjecting. I'm still not sure how I feel about someone basically plagiarizing to make their own book.

I think you already answered why Spindle's End is ok as is - voice. It's the same as having rules in your fictional world. As long as you stick by them people are ok but if you make a mistake it throws people out of the story. Her voice is so strong in that book that backstory is ok.

Plus the fairy tale retelling thing.

As long as the writing is good I'm hooked.
