It was a wonderful system that allowed people to get good food to eat and keep their dignity. It was a win win for everyone. I can't even begin to imagine your pain. May God be with you during this very difficult time. I recently moved to Australia and they have extremely strict laws about youth and driving. Each state in Australia has slightly different laws but in general if you are under the age of 25 you have to go through a graduated licensing process. You have to have your Learner's Permit for one year and log over 100 hours of driving including 10 hours of night driving. You must be 16 or older to get a Learner's Permit. You have to have a licensed driver over the age of 21 in the car with you. And you have to have a big L magnet displayed on your car at all times. Then after that you can get your Provisional License 1 permit which allows you to drive alone but with heavy restrictions such as zero blood alcohol tolerance (I know someone who lost their license with a .001 reading). And you have a big P magnet that you have to display on your car at all times. Then after a year of your P1 license you move up to a Provisional License 2 permit. You hold a P2 License for 2 years again with heavy restrictions. Again with a big P magnet for your car. So in all it takes up to 4 years for a young person to have a full fledged drivers license. I should also note that the drinking age in Australia is 18. I personally believe that the Australian system is too strict however there is a middle ground that I believe will protect young people and the general public a bit better. Her full brother, her father, both of her kids and multiple aunts, uncles and cousins all tested positive for the disease. They are all on blood thinners for life. I hope that this terrible illness is not what Brian has - I'll call her tomorrow to find out what the name of it is... thankfully they caught whatever his issues were in time - her condition went undiagnosed for almost 4 months until she was on her death bed! It was the worst 3 years of his life. We went to doctor after doctor until he was finally helped. It took minor surgery and the problem has resolved itself and he is now 16. His condition was actually diagnosed as Spina Bifida Occulta and is totally preventable by taking folic acid if you are a woman of child bearing age. The condition can occur prior to a woman even knowing she is pregnant.
