I owe it to all owls. I'm serious... At my family's farm, there's a stretch of road that we all had to drive through it really slow, because there was a nest of owls in the side and they would often fly in front of our cars... One day, I was in a bit of a hurry, completely forgot about them and didn't reduce the speed. And, unfortunately, I hit an owl. It was flying in front of my car, I didn't see it, and the poor thing couldn't keep up with the speed, so it hit the windshield. I immediately hit the break and went to check on the owl. It was dead. And it was so tiny and cute. My heart broke and I started crying like I knew her (i like to think it was a she) all my life. I grabbed a blanket (actually, my brother's shirt, but it was 100% cotton, very comfy, I promise) and took the body with me. When I got home, me and my niece (who's 4 yrs old and still thinks the owl was already dead when I found it - don't want her to think of her aunt as a murder) buried the little owl in the backyard. (glad i got that out of my system) Anyway, to think I still feel so guilty when I remember this accident, I can't believe a grown man could actually do such a thing on purpose!
