A couple of years ago I encountered a Very Tall And Large hallway seat occupying guy on an overnight flight who turned to me after dinner and said "I'm going to take a sleeping pill now and will be dead to the world for the next 6 hours so just climb over me if you need the bathroom." That was sort of awkward. But I guess at least he warned me so I didn't have to feebly tap him on the shoulder going "ummm excuse me" to no avail.

Yeah I spent an 11 hour flight on Thursday night sandwiched between that guy and reclining-seat guy. The only possible solution was self-medicating with a steady supply of Bloody Marys.

My solution would be dishes that can be made up in advance and either reheated or finish cooking when people arrive. A veggie lasagna that you can serve with an easy quick salad and some crusty bread, so you can assemble it the night before and stick it in the oven when you're ready? Or a big pot of chilli/ curry/ stew, all things that actually get better with a night in the fridge and re-heating. Or a slow cooker, then you can get it started in the morning and reveal a delicious pot of deliciousness just in time for dinner. Or pasta. Probably I would just feed everyone pasta.
