Acceptable? By and to whom, exactly?
Perhaps it is not so strange that islamophobia exists, given the history of Islam and its 1,400 year long, intermittent war on the West. Had it not been for Western resistance, Islam would long since have swallowed Europe with hide and hair - it has certainly tried hard enough. As for the myth of peaceful coexistence between Jews and Moslems, there is an article that has a differing view, and worth reading. It is titled "The Myth of the Andalusian Paradise," written by Dario Fernandez-Morera and may be found on the Web. (I cannot post the U R L due to the cretin comment system that the Forward uses.)
Am I to understand that you would not have turned the peeping Tom rabbi in if you had caught him spying on the naked women in the mikvah? Or if you had caught an orthodox rabbi molesting children? If you are aware of wrongdoing, would you not try to stop it by notifying the authorities if the wrongdoer happens to be Jewish? In that case I suggest that you're a p!ss-poor citizen in addition to complicity in the offense by aiding and abetting.
No one is limiting their charity. Donate to your heart's content, but don't expect the taxpaying public to subsidize your pet projects by granting a tax exemption.
And what has this to do with a U.S. tax exempt status? I see no reason why U.S. taxpayers should subsidize the activities of foreigners, especially if their acts do not further our policy goals. It may surprise you to realize that not all Americans have an interest in whatever Israel does. Hence, the Israelis' machinations should not be financed by the U.S. taxpaying public, beyond the sums our government allocates as part of military assistance. Certainly, private contributions should be taxed. It is bad enough that religious organizations are tax exempt already, but Israeli land grabs do not fall in that category, apart from the fact that they are not a U.S. undertaking.
Of course it is appropriate. All U.S. charity and foreign assistance should be a tool to promote our interests, not those of someone else. It is wholly appropriate to use monetary contributions as a carrot-and-stick to achieve our foreign policy goals. Those who disagree always have the option to decline the assistance.
This cretin comment system deletes completely ordinary posts. It is very irritating.
I can disprove that, but this l o u s y com ment system won't let me. Search for article named "7 B e s t J e w i s h C o m e b a c k s t o C a t c a l l i n g" and watch the v i d e o.
Are you sure you're supposed to notice what Tova Ross looks like? DID YOU LOOK HER UP ON GOOGLE IMAGES? Azkenamer, tsk, tsk. Bad Jew - bad ultra-orthodox.
(My wife once ran into an ultra at her office, and when she tried to identify a female co-worker who was not present by describing her, the ultra informed her archly "I don't notice those things." He should have been given the award for Hypocrite of the Month.)
And if there weren't enough non-hasidic Jews in Israel to defend the hasidim's butts, the Arabs would long since have eaten them alive. Prayer is not exactly a deterrent against enemies, neither is it a substitute for work to feed oneself and one's family instead of leeching off the taxpayers.
