hearwax : Obscura - Cosmogenesis

hahaha, nowhere did I say anyone involved with Cosmogenesis recorded for Onset Of Putrefaction (I assume that is the album OTP is reffering to?) except if you consider that Hannes did do some rerecordings of the engineered drums for the reissue. And also, just because they did not record or majoritively write OOP does not mean that members playing the songs off of it every night for over two years would NOT have that influence on their next project.

hearwax : After The Burial - Rareform (Reissue)

The weirdly upbeat nature of their progressions on Rareform effectively make them the Weezer of new school metalcore. “Ometh” has its fair share of posi riffing, drastically melodic without going into musical theatre territory. The slightly impressive “Aspiration” begins with a strong grasp of guitar effects and charmingly tacky guitar leads. There is also a uniquely enjoyable solo in the first minutes of “Drifts”. I like those moment most on this release and are an element the band needs to focus and capitalize on for their third release... That is the element that is distinctly "them" on this release and could put them head and shoulders above all in their scene if they worked it more.

hearwax : After The Burial - Rareform (Reissue)

nah, I did not argue their style was "similar" to Meshuggah, I wrote; "While other bands have shaped an entire genre out of Nothing and Chaosphere while still maintaining scraps of individuality, After The Burial’s djenty math chugs are identical in nature to any of those album’s (except for the fact that none of After The Burial’s are remotely memorable). While the exact time signatures and rhythms are not used, the tone, playing style and aesthetical choices are a blatantly mimicry of Meshuggah, or even the likeminded Coprofago." I am not sure how to argue this "Playing style is only similar during their earlier-mentioned Meshuggah breakdowns. " as it seems you are corroborating my point. As for the eight strings, yes you are right, (maybe the reason I figured they were seven strings is because the guitar production sounded so limpdick lololol) but it is ridiculous to concede that all bands who use eight strings are not at fault for sounding the same; bands who chug away with the exact same distorted bass tone as their obvious idols in Meshuggah. Their strings are not making them play polyrhythms and start-stops identical to another band's. Ion Dissonance and even FellSilent like you mentioned sound vastly different from meshuggah. Sorry buddy, After The Burial are a narcoleptic photocopier of a band.

hearwax : Inglourious Basterds

it seems most people are digging on the, shall I say henceforth "QT-kitsch", and have good reason to (for the lightness and inobtrusiveness compared to other films) but it makes me wish Tarantino did not shy away from being grave or heavy. This is a war film. This is a film about Nazi opression. And while yes, it is refreshing to attack that in such an offbeat way as he did (I admire that on that level) most of the time it does not feel courageous, integral, and worse; pandering to fanboys

hearwax : Between the Buried and Me Post Teaser

1: 50 - 2:00 decimate all life, dig the Nightbear shit, 2:20 black metal, 2:25 celtic stuff, so cool____2:50 - 3 25 is amazing____this teaser is incredible, and shows the improved riffs and identity that follow in the pastiche of loose themes in Colors. This sounds way more confident, way stronger, and way more charged with energy. I feel other than the cowbell and some parts that could be in an elevator, this is some strong technical music and a highlight possibly of the year

hearwax : Emmure – Felony

hahaha, this may not be my review, but if you want to read some "aggressive" E-drama, check out reviews for After The Burial, and Antarctica on this website. Disagreeing is not aggressive, and we actually often crave it more than approval. It means people are reading these opinions and obviously something in them seems compelling enough to respond to or argue with. THAT is the good stuff.
