I believe that the story of this mans life is pretty interesting. He’s in jail for life and without the possibility of parole and he seems pretty calm and used to his life in jail. I always had this imagine of prisoners being grimy people who didn’t care about anyone but himself or herself. But hearing the story of what this man witnessed in jail changed my whole perception of prisoners. I mean it hasn’t changed it that much because I still know that prisoners are criminals and have committed serious crimes to get into the situation that they are in. But it showed me that even though these prisoners are as violent and dangerous they still have emotions. And they will look out for one another when they are down and in time of need. The story that this man said about a man losing his son in a car accident and not being able to contact anyone is very sad. But it was real cool of his enemy to come over and show him support. And to help him get through all the pain and grief that he was feeling at that moment. And it probably made him feel a lot better knowing that an enemy of his was coming over to comfort him and to show him that there was no more bad blood between them. I was also very much impressed by the inmate ability to write this letter and sound like he had gotten more than just an elementary school education. It shows me that even though there are a lot of inmates in prison who really don’t care about life anymore because of there situation, also that there are still other inmates who care and try and make the best of being in prison. And they try and take advantage of all the programs that are offered to them. I know personally that jail is not a place for me and it’s a place that I never plan on having to visit. But it is very good to know that there are humble people amongst many of these other prisoners that would be considered animals or savages because of there behavior and there attitudes. I wish we didn’t have to have jails here in this country but unfortunately there are people who cannot live without crime. There are people who need to commit crimes just to get by or just because they get a thrill off of it. I really do wish the best for this man who is serving the rest of his life in jail. I know he has a rough life behind bars and its nice to see that he is making strides towards bettering himself. And I’ve learned a lot from him because he made me realize that even though these prisoners are criminals they still have emotions and will look out for one another in times of need.

I believe that getting rid of welfare will not help this country at all. What i think would happen is that all the people who rely on welfare to get by day by day will result to crime to make the money that they used to get from welfare. Because the people who are usually are on welfare are people who come from poor area mostly urban areas who are surrounded by crime and drugs. So they will get drawn into the fast money of selling drugs and this will create more crime nationwide. Getting rid of welfare is not something that im for and i doubt that i will ever be. Because i know people who are on welfare. And these people are good people who just didn't have the opportunities that people like us penn state students had. And they rely very heavily on that monthly welfare check to feed there kids and themselves. And they are people who live in pretty poor neighborhoods in NYC. Ive been to where they live and its no joke. The elevators smell like piss and there graffiti all over every inch of the hallway walls and you can smell marijuana throughout the whole building. And the worst part of it all is the people who hang around these buildings. Who are selling drugs and just looking to get into some type of trouble. The people who live in these buildings don't even let there kids out to play because there scared that they could get shot, stabbed, mugged or even taken. I have to admit that even i am scared to walk around in these neighborhoods. and these people having it hard enough because they have to live under these conditions, would not know what to do it they didn't get that little check that they get every month that gives them a sense of relief. I don't think that getting rid of welfare will help in anyway. It would definitely just worsen the situation. I believe that the US has to find a way to get more jobs in this country so that these people on welfare can find get better paying jobs so that they wont have to be on welfare. This would really be the only sure way to make the economic problem in this country disappear. But until this happens welfare must not be taken away from these people who rely heavily on that monthly check. Because if that gets taken away from them then they will most likely end up turning to criminal behavior to make up for the extra income they will be missing out on from the welfare check. And the last thing this country needs is more criminals!

16 years ago @ Race Relations Project - If men could menstruat... · 0 replies · +1 points

Well let me start off by saying that me as a man am not interested in learning about woman's menstrual cycles. I believe that the whole idea of blood coming out of a woman's vagina is disgusting. Because lets be honest when us men think about a woman's vagina we think about something else. And even though we know that blood comes out of the vagina just thinking about it makes us feel sick because its honestly gross. I mean i don't mind it as long as i don't have to see it or be around it. I grew up with two woman in my household so I've seen more than enough tampons in pads for a lifetime.

Im glad to be a man because we don't have to experience that discomfort and mess every month. But if we also did have a menstrual cycle than my life would be so much different. I cant imagine having to have to deal with the pain and the mess that woman have to go through. I know sam said it was a beautiful thing but i beg to differ. I think its pretty nasty and the only time im glad to hear about a period is when my girl says shes gotten it after a scare. I know that might be wrong on my behalf to think of it like this but im only being honest. But when my girl does have it i make sure to help her out in any way that i can to make her feel more comfortable. Because i know enough about the menstrual cycle to know that when it is a girls time of the month that she probably isn't happy and could use some cheering up. So i make sure to do my best and make my girl feel good.

I know its a part of nature so thats why i don't really mind it. But just thats its blood coming out of that part of a woman's body is what makes me nauseous and gag. But like i said before as long as i don't see it or i don't have to be around it im perfectly fine with it going on. And woman do an excellent job in hiding it. Because you cant walk around on campus pointing out girls who have there period because there is no way for you to know that unless you know that person. And as far as if men had there periods and tampons being free. I highly doubt that they would be. It doesn't make any sense because there is a lot of things that both men and woman do and we don't get free stuff to help us. Like for example all of us use the bathroom. Why don't the give out free toilet paper than? It just wouldn't make any sense for the companies to make tampons free for everyone.

I dont think this is fair at all. This lady lives in america and its a free country. I mean i understand that Abercrombie has its dress codes because i have a friend that works at one of the stores. But if they hired this lady and they told her that she would be able to wear her scarf over her head than they shouldn't be allowed to go back on what they said. This lady needs to fight for her right to wear that scarf. Im sure if because of religious purposes that she wears it so i really think she should be allowed to wear it if they already gave her permission too. This is the same thing as the blog with the ladies in London wearing burqas. They didn't want to allow them to wear them in London which i guess i can understand because they don't have the same laws as us here in the US. But here in america we are allowed to wear whatever we want and represent ourselves how ever the hell we want. It is very unfair to tell this woman when she applied for the job that she would be able to wear her scarf and then tell her out of no where that she no longer will be able too. I believe Abercrombie and Hollister are racist companies anyway. The majority of there employees are white and they hire very few minority employees. I had a friend who worked at Abercrombie and they had to take a store pic. And she told me that they organized them in a certain order in which they put a minority in between each white person so that it would look that the store is diverse. When in reality its really not. I believe if a store needs to go out of its way to show that its diverse and in no way prejudice than that company is racist. This is a free country and this lady should be able to wear what ever she wants.

I highly disagree with the French banning the use of the burqa. Simple because its a part of there religion and its part of there lifestyle. I believe that the only occasion in which they should not be allowed to use the burqa is if they are traveling by plane or if they have to take some type of picture for and id or a passport. Because this is a part of there religion they should be entitled to wear whatever they want if they are not causing any harm to anyone. I don't see what the big deal with them wearing the burqa is anyway. Its not like its effecting anyone else in any way. I believe that if they are being forced to wear the burqa by there spouse then there should be a law that allows these woman to wear whatever they want. But if they are wearing it willingly then the french government has no right to get in the way of there religious beliefs. Im from nyc and see i see muslim woman wearing the burqas all the time. And it doesn't bother me at all. I feel bad for them that they have to wear that in the summer too because they must get really hot wearing those. Coming from nyc there is much more for me to worry about other than what people are wearing. I don't think its right to expect everyone to dress the same. Thats part of a country being diverse. That everyone isn't the same. That people bring there cultures from other countries and share them with the countries that they migrate too. And this is how us americans and other countries learn about other cultures. And then we take what we've learned about these cultures and try and mixed them in with ours. But then again we have to understand that there are people in this world that aren t open minded at all and don't really like to learn new things. They are really old fashioned and like things to be how they've always been. And i believe this is whats going on with the french government. They don't like that these Muslim people are coming into there country and are bringing there cultures with them. Its not right that they force these Muslim immigrants to abandon there beliefs and wearing the burqa is definitely part of there beliefs. If i was one of these immigrants i would definitely form a group and boycott this law that the french are attempting to pass. Because it is not right and it is completely unfair. And if this law does get passed then this needs to be brought up worldwide and the french need to be exposed for the unfairness of there laws.

I had no clue that racism was still so big in Europe. I knew that soccer fans are were really extreme fans. But i don't get what waving a nazi flag has anything to do with cheering and supporting your team. Im a huge sports fan. I watch all sports and sportscenter is practically my life. And i seriously had no clue that this issue of racism was so prevalent in soccer. Im glad that this type of activity doesn't happen in our american sports because it would really turn me off to sports. And i must say that this does turn me off to watching and following soccer. Because those europeans are so crazy! Im still going to watch the world cup. And i hope none of this occurs during this worldwide broadcasted tournament. Because then the world will become aware that europeans are still racist. I strongly believe that these stadiums should get more security to ensure that these types of things do not happen. Because its very unnecessary and it should definitely not be tolerated. They should also make sure that they view any signs that fans may bring into the stadium. Just to make sure that there isn't anything that could offend any other fans in the stadium. i also think that air horns should not be allowed in the stadium. Because they distract the players on the field and is annoying to hear when your trying to watch and enjoy the game. Soccer is probably my least favorite sport. But i still watch it once in a while. And knowing that this occurs during games makes me want to watch it less. Because i feel like the fans don't have any respect for the game. They need to find a way to ban these people from entering the stadium again. Because they encourage other people who have there same beliefs to do the same when they attend games. I also think that the spanish coach that called the black player a monkey was disrespectful. I thought he should have gotten a harsher punishment for what he did. They never mention on the games on tv watch the fans are chanting and now i know why. Because the fans are degrading the black players. They don't judge them by there talent like they should. Instead they judge them by there appearance. I hope that somehow they can bring a stop to this. If this ever happened here in the United States this problem would have been addressed already. And i'm very surprised that the europeans have not tried to address this problem yet. They should really consider to fix this soon. Because the number of black players playing soccer could probably begin to decrease. I know i wouldnt want to take this abuse if i was a player. So im sure that they dont appreciate it either.

I very much disagree with this theory of everyone becoming white. I believe that it wont solve a thing. Because there will still be racism. Just that it wont be black and white anymore. It'll become the whites against the cream users or wanna be whites. And all us minorities will still be treated unfairly and will still be denied that corporate job over the natural born white person. Ive come to terms with the fact that there are many racist and discrimination in the world. And that this will never change because its just how some people are raised. And the only reason I'm ok with it is because I'm not the one that is missing out. Those who are racist are the ones who are missing out on the chance of learning new cultures and seeing how other people live. I'm not gonna dye my skin white just so i can please the white man. I feel that if a person doesn't like me because of my race or skin color than i don't have any business or interest in meeting that person or being in that persons presence. I am an American citizen and have all the same rights as any other person. This is why i am embarrassed by what Sammy Sosa has done. Here you have a man whom i looked up to as i was growing up. I would say all the time when i was growing up how much i wanted to be like Sammy and be able to hit home runs like Sammy, and be able to play for the Cubs like Sammy. But then as i got older and then these allegations of him using steroids came out. I lost some respect for the guy but i was still a fan. Because he was a fellow Dominican and i have to support my people. And i also thought that he was still a great player and helped my country shine when him and Mark McGwire were in that Home run race in the late 90's. And now he crawls out of the cave hes been hiding in for however long and his skin is completely nasty looking and a whole different color. He doesn't even look like himself anymore. And this is when i lost all respect for this man. Here you have a man who is set financially for the rest of his life. He doesn't have to worry about trying to get a job or facing any kind of discrimination living in the Dominican Republic that us young minorities will face as we get older here in the US. So then why did he have to get his skin bleached? What was the reason for this? It wasn't because of the steroids. Because if he had vitilago we would have seen patches of discolored skin on him. But we didn't see any of that. In Michael Jackson's case there is photographic evidence that he suffered from this disease and you could see the patches of discolored skin in his hands. But Sammy in my eyes had no reason to do this except for the fact that he wanted to be white. He thought this through and decided i want to turn my skin white. Why can't a man with so much money just enjoy being who he his and not have to go to extremes to change his appearance unless its truly necessary. I really have no more respect for this man and i feel like he has disgraced my country. We in no shape or form want to be white because we are who we are and trust me there is no pride like Dominican pride.
