BravesBlast.com :: Atlanta Braves Blog : This Isn't A Contending Team

Totally agree with you. It's always disappointing for something like that to happen, it just seems that in a perfect scenario (second and third no one out) that our favorite team (not tongue-in-cheek) finds a way to get nothing out of it. :( Hopefully that turns around this weekend in the sandbox in Cinci.

Why are you surprised? That's something the Braves have done several times a year even when we were winning division titles.

There's a possibility we could trade for Brian Roberts from Baltimore (2B) and move Kelly to the outfield...just a possibility though, nothing certain.

I totally agree..we would not have felt the same way about comments from Jake Peavy or AJ Burnett. Lowe has been a team player wherever he's been and he 100% fits the Braves culture.

seriously, Young's contract is about $10 mill more than KJ's will be this year and will only go up. Plus offensively, KJ was much better than Young in his first two seasons in the bigs. Give him time.

BravesBlast.com :: Atlanta Braves Blog : Peavy Rumors And More

More interesting news of Peavy rumors: ESPN Article on Peavy Rumors "Multiple sources consider it likely the Padres will deal Peavy in the weeks ahead, and that is a virtual certainty that he will be traded before the July 31 deadline next season. The Padres are seeking at least two young pitchers in return, along with someone who can become the team's everyday center fielder sometime in the immediate to near future." Morton/Reyes, a Double A Pitcher, Hernandez/Schafer? Not many other teams can match that.

BravesBlast.com :: Atlanta Braves Blog : It's Not Pretty, But Keep Watching

We just need to give Kotchman more time. He came from a winning situation where he was a cog, but not a major cog, to a losing situation where he believes he's expected to be a major cog. A power bat signing in the outfield would be good protection for a singles-doubles hitter like Kotchman. On another note, Jojo Reyes had a quality start against the Mets on Tuesday night. Good to see Jojo getting back on track, unfortunately, the bullpen held together like the first little piggy's house and fell down when the "big bad" Muts took advantage of the poor pitching.

BravesBlast.com :: Atlanta Braves Blog : Braves Updates

I hope Hudson responds well to the rehab after treatment. He's been pretty durable in his career and should be back within a year. That said, I think they should hold him out all of next year, UNLESS they're in first place or within 2 or 3 games in August and September next year. The reason being, I think most pitchers take about 15-16 months to get their velocity back and that's such an important factor in Hudson's pitching style, we saw what happened when he was a little slower, he got clobbered earlier in the year.

BravesBlast.com :: Atlanta Braves Blog : Sammons Sticking Around

It's sad that .500 over two games qualifies as a "hot bat" for us, but I guess we'll take it. As far as the decision goes, it was most likely the right decision. There was no way Miller was going to be the back up catcher going into next season and Sammons is at least auditioning for a job, if nothing else. Plus he's handled most of these pitchers at the minor league level, including James and Morton and Reyes (if we see him again this year) so he has experience with these young guys and that will definitely help.

He's gone 3-3 with a 2.50 ERA in his last 10 starts at Richmond, a far cry from the CJ we saw at the beginning of the season. Hopefully he can bring some of that stability and success with him to Atlanta this weekend.

I am, definitely. He hasn't pitched a full season since 2004, at the same time, he's shown that he can be an ace if he could just stay healthy. Remember the 18K game against us in 2004? That's probably him at his best.

Something like 34 straight saves? Not close to Gagne's, but the guy's been money in close/late situations. Another name I just saw that's a free agent after the season on Bowman's blog is John Lackey, whom the Braves might even get for a less price than Sabathia. Of all of the three, I'd say Sheets has the best stuff, but if the Braves want a guy that's gonna give them 30 starts a year, Sabathia would be the way to go. Unfortunately, it might cost them $40-50 million more on an 8 to 10 year contract for Sabathia as opposed to the other two guys.

Definitely, plus Moylan won't be a free agent until...who knows when, I think 2010 or 2011 is when he'll get to test the market barring a long-term deal. As for Gonzalez, I would not be surprised if the Braves lock him up long term (at an affordable rate). I like Soriano, but he's been more valuable to this team as a set up guy as opposed to a closer.

As awesome as Ohman has been for us, teams out there will be offering him 3-4 year contracts worth anywhere between $12-$18 million. The Braves have never offered a relief pitcher that kind of money and I think they're better off turning their sights to a Ben Sheets or C. C. Sabathia - long term deal.

This is the first season he's pitched over 60 innings and really the first season he's been back since 2005. He's still developing, as is a lot of our staff. Kelly Johnson, Jeff Francoeur, Gregor Blanco, Yunel Escobar, Manny Acosta, Jair Jurrjens, Jorge Campillo, Jojo Reyes, Charlie Morton, Peter Moylan. With the exception of Moylan and Campillo (who are 29) the rest are all under 25 and require time to develop. The unfortunate thing about that, is that I don't think the Braves fans realize that fully. It's really hard to depend on two young guys, Boyer and Acosta, for rubber arms when they haven't even had an entire season to develop their strength, especially Acosta, who is not the biggest guy in the world. I think it just needs time, these guys are already really good and not really any of them have entered the "prime" of their careers.

In case you guys didn't hear: Hudson was advised to have Tommy John surgery, it's in his corner right now and the sooner he gets the surgery, the sooner he recovers. That's two major cogs on our pitching staff this year that have had major elbow surgery.

I like your view Sheryl, but I don't think Atlanta fans will change any time soon. They always find a way to poke a hole in a situation, even if the Braves went 162-0 and 11-0 in the post season.

i get myself mixed up sometimes. I did mean left field, lol. I think Heyward is actually a right fielder, but could probably move. He's got the speed (15 steals this year in 16 attempts) and could play either center or left.
