For prostituting himself as a historian Bernard Lewis continued to retain his exclusive access to the bureaucratic detritus of the former Ottoman Empire. His further reward was high praise from his highly placed "secular" Turkish friends and enthusiastic help from them in having his bogus histories on Islam translated into Turkish and Arabic.
