I can think of a few moments in a couple of war games where there are honest to god war crimes but, as you said, they're always done by villains, and within the context of a story. What exactly does the Red Cross accomplish by doing this? Do they think that the average gamer is too stupid to understand right from wrong? Is it really such a big deal that they need to divert attention and resources into meddling with an entertainment medium?

Interestingly enough the Escapist Magazine, a website about gaming, posted up an article attacking Fox News for a segment on Fox and Friends in which they criticized environmentally themed games. I'm curious if the Escapist will have any comment regarding this. I'm a big fan of video games, and think they're an excellent artistic medium, but this is sickening. It reminds me of Ethnic Cleansing, a video game created by Neo-Nazis in which you shoot up Jews, latinos and blacks.

A bit of historical revisionism, don't you think? The Roman empire at its most hedonistic, was when it was decline. "panem et circenses". Give them bread, wine and circus. The idea being that so long as the citizenry is mildly happy and completely entertained that they'll ignore everything falling apart around them. It worked. Rome was in decline the moment the first Caesar died. It was a slow, inevitable slog to complete ruin caused by increasing corruption in every level of the Roman government, and an inability to summon and pay enough mercenaries to protect their exponentially expanding borders. By the time we had a "Christian" emperor, Western Rome was already in ruin (frankly, it was depressing). Do you know what followed? Eastern Rome. The Christian Byzantine empire, the last vestige of Rome, would survive and thrive in Constantinople (named after Constantine, the first Christian emperor. Now called Istanbul) for a thousand years after the fall of the Western Roman empire.

Anyone else find it mildly hilarious that MovieBob keeps shoving Ayn Rand quotes in our face as if she is the standard bearer for conservatism? As if her words on the subject are taken as final by us all? Frankly, I find objectivism to be sociopathic libertarianism. Rand's philosophy intersects with Conservatism on occasion but I'm not afraid to say that there are ALOT of things Ayn Rand is dead wrong about, most notably her opinion that selfishness is somehow a virtue. I can understand why, given her background, she would feel this way. However, its still wrong. Stop treating pregnancy like it some random disease women are inflicted with. If a woman had intercourse, and got pregnant, that was no "accident". It was supposed to happen. While I certainly will not obstruct a person's choice to engage in sexual activity, I will definitely obstruct a person's decision to terminate another's life because it is too inconvenient to deal with the consequences of their actions.

Its not the "elite" that should be opposed. Hell, I don't want my surgeon to not be elite amongst his profession. America is an "elite" country, and I'm proud of that. In this regard, I think Moviebob has a point. We need to specify that its not the elite we despise, its elitists. People who believe that a Harvard degree makes you more fit to make decisions about how the rest of us should live our own lives. That going to an Ivy league school somehow makes you the ideal person to govern us lowly plebeians, because of course you know best. You have a degree after all. But Moviebob, the worst thing that happened to civilization was when Western Civilization started loathing itself.
