/Film : David Hayter To Adapt Long-Running Zombie Comic Deadworld

I'm seeing this argument a lot. As a fan of this sub-genre, I share the concern, but really, it doesn't matter. Lots of things get over-saturated in our culture, but does a good piece of work become bad because a different work sucks or is a cash grab? Regardless of how many zombie movies or books or whatever come out, doesn't make World War Z (for example) any less brilliant. Besides, all good zombie fare isn't really about zombies, but about the human condition. As long as we still get good ones, that's all I care about.

There's a pretty good interview with Ackroyd and Ramis in the latest Playstation magazine. They mostly talk about the game, but there's a little about the possible movie as well.

/Film : Sam Raimi Has Something to Prove with Spider-Man 4, Hopes to Begin Shooting in February

I'll step out and agree with you. The casting for those movies is wrong, wrong, wrong (except for a few of the minor characters). The second one was the only good one, and in fact, made me care about a villain I always thought was dumb. But the first was was only just passable, and the less said about the third one, the better. Losing Dunst alone would improve the series. And just one villain this time please. Curt Conners/Lizard. And I like the Evil Dead series for it's camp value, but DMTH looks awful. Why does Raimi get such a pass from the fan community?

Agreed--they built every tiny little detail on their sets and used digital to support their practical shots. Really tasteful use of the technology. Aside from the first Jurassic Park, the LOTR films are what I think of as really brilliant special effects that still hold up for the most part (at least for fantasy and sci-fi).

/Film : Preacher Update: Screenplay is Half-Written

No way should you cut Jesse's family out. Taking away the emotional impact of having Jesse have to try to save Tulip from his F'd up family would take away one of the best parts in the entire series. It's great character development to learn from where he came and why he's running from them. And Preacher, at it's heart, is a love story. Take away the heart and the human motivation, and all you have left is a string of profane and violent events with no connection. And while it doesn't offend me in the slightest, having an entire organization trying to bring about the Biblical apocalypse by keeping an inbred and retarded bloodline of Jesus alive is pretty controversial. And you know, the part about God having abandoned the world and having to answer to Jesse kind of screams blasphemy. But I'm sure you're right about the Christians not taking it seriously. They won't boycott this at all.

Yeah, I agree on both points. I'm ok with a film attempt, but I have to wonder what kind of audience this can really hope to draw. It certainly won't make enough money to make sequels. I thought Watchmen was pretty good on screen, but it looks like the industry has deemed it a failure, as well as not going forward with more mature, R-rated films--and for those of us that have read Preacher, it's a stretch to even think it wouldn't push past R. Even with the "moral" backlash that will ensue to boost promotion, I just don't know. . .

Anybody know why Cyclops is in "Wolverine" anyway? Is there continuity as to why no one knows each other in "X-Men", but in the prequel characters have met? I don't mind them changing things from the comics if it makes sense, but can't they at least keep up with their own version? One of you guys that's seen this shed some light, please.
