Daily Camera.com: : Woman knocked down, injured by protective moose in Boulder County foothills - Boulder Daily Camera

It's not Disney World. You don't have to leash your dog there, but you're taking a risk. Natural places are what they are. I have encountered moose several times in Colorado, and I have always treated it as a self-presservation moment. By the way, there is a leash rule in Indian Peaks Wilderness (and most Wilderness areas), but she was not likely that far up the trail.

Daily Camera.com: : Colleen Ostlund: Train noise is the number one problem in Boulder - Boulder Daily Camera

Thanks for the correction. I believe CoB was insisting that RTD include the quiet zone effort if they did ever bring the train service here. I agree with you on not holding breath: current RTD plans have the service arriving around the predicted time of the Singularity.

Daily Camera.com: : Colleen Ostlund: Train noise is the number one problem in Boulder - Boulder Daily Camera

- No, it is not Boulder's #1 problem - I live about a quarter mile from the tracks and it really is quite shockingly loud, especially in the middle of the night - Yes, I chose where to live. Does that mean we should not want to improve things? People are trying to reduce carbon emissions, seems like we could also reduce noise emissions. - By the way, it's actually a pretty large swath of Boulder that is affected by the train noise, including the planned transit village. - The FRA has an entire procedure (100 pages of the Federal Register - I printed it out) dealing with how to establish a quiet zone. They can be 24x7 or night only. The main requirement is that you have to have a certain type of gate at the grade crossings. So, it's an investment the City and County would have to make, or RTD if they ever put the light rail in. - I don't think the trains are violating current rules, they are likely following them. But we can establish a quiet zone. It's a reasonable step and a worthwhile investment for a town that prides itself on being environmentally friendly.

And every foot along the way, more of it gets dissolved into the soil and acts as a fertilizer. By the time it reaches South Boulder Creek, it is likely no more concentrated than the fertilizers coming off Mark Udall's lawn in Eldo.

No, more like "anything is toxic in excess quantities." There are people who commit suicide by drinking too much water. Rather than claim that the retardants are the equivalent of Napalm, maybe we can agree that they should consider where they are dropping it. I would be the first to agree that they shouldn't be killing fish to save someone's ill-considered foothills mansion. But they're not killing fish, or harming humans, by dropping this stuff on top of Bear Peak.

Normal fertilizer components that are likely toxic to fish in excess quantities - sounds like due to water chemistry changes. This is a problem in the High Park fire which is along the Poudre river, but not a problem on Bear/South Boulder Peak where it will be fully diluted by the time it reaches anything that contains fish (i.e., South Boulder Creek).

Even when the shelter is full, which it usually is not, there are plenty of fallbacks in Boulder, including churches and other humanitarian groups. The issue is that neither the shelter nor the fallbacks allow liquor, weapons, or pets. In other words, those who camp are making a choice.

Daily Camera.com: : Boulder approves crosswalk speed limit of 8 mph, plus flashing-light rule - Boulder Daily Camera

Actually it's not a conversation, it's a comment thread on IntenseDebate on a local online newspaper; as such, it is up to the readers to determine what is relevant or valuable, which they have affirmed with respect to my comment (+34) and rejected (-1) with respect to your Comment Police effort. Further, you are either not a resident of Boulder, or have not been here very long, or do not have any friends in Boulder, if you do not know what "prana" is. But I'll let you look it up on Wikipedia. Finally, as to "what is nonsense?", I am referring to the City's attempts to implement increasingly complex, inscrutable, unenforceable traffic rules and systems in an attempt to accommodate every constituency, and the populace's corresponding intransigence in simply doing whatever they want regardless of the rules. And my point, since you didn't understand it, is that people should not rely on these rules or on anyone following them; instead, the only path to safety is to *pay attention*.

I used to get riled up about this nonsense, but at some point I just took a deep prana breath, and accepted that driving in Boulder is and will continue to be a chaotic obstacle course, with skateboarders, bicycles, dogs, jaywalkers, deer, scooters, Subarus, drivers on cellphones, drivers eating breakfast, stoned council members driving, unfamiliar-wheeled-devices-that-sort-of-look-like-bicycles, pedestrians texting, undergraduates-unacquainted-with-their-mortality, wind-driven debris, and many other objects moving into, across, over, and along the streets in random directions at random speeds at random times without warning. The only solution for a driver is to pay very close attention and have fast reflexes. Unfortunately, that does not describe most Boulder drivers.

City has limited governmental immunity, so while you can sue them, you have to show a "dangerous condition" (and from the statute, "The mere existence of wind, water, snow, ice, or temperature shall not, by itself, constitute a dangerous condition"), and then if you win anyway, the award is limited.

Daily Camera.com: : CU-Boulder sophomore invests in unusual education - Boulder Daily Camera

Facebook, Zynga, Twitter... vast sums of money are being made in social media. Consequently, sociology is actually quite a good major if you already understand other aspects of business. Furthermore, if you are planning to run an actual organization of any size, sociology is probably more important than business administration. Balance sheets and finance are mechanical, leading a team is really hard. I'm assuming that it's a good sociology program, which I don't actually know.

>>The decision means the appeal of David Madison ... is now final. I don't think this is correct; since it is a constitutional matter it could be further appealed to the U.S. Supreme Court... unless they were relying entirely on the Colorado constitution, which seems unlikely.
