You'd think with everything blatantly, empirically proving that he's orchestrated at least a significant part of the entire fuckin' coverup for the past fifty years, there'd be a case for an international court to charge him wtih crimes against humanity. If not him, then the Vatican as an organisation since they've been doing it for at least the last couple of hundred years.

It's true. Conformity for its own sake, and for no other reason, is useless. Same as tradition, under the same conditions - I've lost count of the number of people who've told me I'm an atheist because I want to sin, rather than because I see no reason to trust the word of ancient nomads who treated women worse than cattle and didn't know what the Moon was.

I think it was Mark Twain in Tom Sawyer who first pointed that out to me - "If one wants to make a man covet a thing, it is only necessary to make that thing difficult to obtain."

I'd absolutely love to point out to these chumps that they're pulling the same shit extremist Muslims pull. Exactly the same. Just to watch the look on their faces if they realised it was true.

Actually, Teresa was more concerned with causing it. It got her more funding if it was visible suffering on the part of people she'd declared under her care, and like Whiffle says she thought it led to greater joining with her god.

She didn't do much of it herself, she just made other people's lives as awful as she could in various non-taxable ways - and if it's Mother Teresa making you suffer needlessly you apparently can't complain. It's for your own good, as the imam said to the rape victim.

That's basically because they know that shit wouldn't fly for a second, because most people are nicer than they are and wouldn't agree with it on principle. So they've got to come up with bullshit of all kinds, including lying about the Bible's stance on abortion (which treats the act of causing a miscarriage - the closest it gets - the same way it treats property damage, not murder) and making up crap about it causing cancer.

Some of them already have been, under similar laws elsewhere. Except the charge is full-on murder.

Now picture the faces of the next set of wingnuts you encounter upon the explanation that while both are bull, at least in the quran there's an explicit mention that those in hell might be granted mercy - and therefore that the muslim scriptures are, in terms of eternity, more friendly than the christian ones.
