Agreed. An officer of the law must be held to high standards, including an understanding of the grave implications of his actions and a sensitivity toward potential abuses of his authority. Cobane messed up like any human might, but he messed up with something we shouldn't have an easy-going attitude toward. He messed up with the way wrong thing, and that's unacceptable. Human or otherwise.

I don't know the guy, so I can't make a judgment about his character. But in terms of the precedent this sets and the utter loss of public trust this will create, the man needs to be discharged. I hoped he would've resigned immediately instead, but I'm sure he has his reasons.

I don't know nearly enough to have any solid opinion about its scientific validity. But I do find it incredibly fascinating, and I plan on reading some literature on it.
