Everybody wins, everybody pays and it puts an end to the left's class warfare BS. Therein lies the problem. I know more than a few honest liberals (and even a few progressives) who would love this, precisely because it's the best way to "make the rich pay their fair share" without putting too much of a strain on the lower classes. But there are too many politicians stringing along suckers through their class warfare BS, since that's what's keeping them in power, not to mention all the loopholes in the current tax code which ensure they won't have to pay their fair share.

It's seemed more and more lately that an "expert" is little more than some random guy who picked up a book on something and read it all the way through... even if he didn't understand a word of it. Even a Bachelor's degree isn't necessary any more. Don't know a thing about money, business, or economics? Do your eyes glaze over whenever numbers appear? Do you need a calculator to perform even basic mathematic functions? Not to worry! Just read The General Theory of Employment, Interest and Money and you too can be an economics "ekspurt"!

What a lot of progressives are either ignorant of or willfully ignore is that America-hate is a trendy, fashionable thing that even a lot of old geezer elites tend to only pay lip service to. And it's mostly an emotionally-detached sort of "hatred". But the truth is that Europeans hate each other far more than anything they could muster for the U.S., and their reasons are very specific. Europe can still be a fairly tribal place where indignities committed hundreds of years in the past echo down the ages. Doubly so when a particular injustice was committed fairly recently and there are people still around who remember it.

As somebody who has sold his soul to make a living doing what he loves creatively, I can't begin to tell you how angry this makes me. I would have preferred to make sensitive personal films and live comfortably, then fight with network executives about the color and size of a mutant shark. But hey, I was raised not to be a sponge. I couldn't have phrased this any better myself. Bravo.

Not completely; there are still many artists who do indeed live by that mantra, myself included. True, the poseurs who become artists either because of their love of a perceived "artist's lifestyle" or their desire for fame and fortune seem to be the ones garnering the most press, you typically don't hear about those of us silently struggling precisely for that reason: we're not advertising ourselves. We have stories to tell and beauty to share, and those are the only reasons we became artists. Anyone else is, quite simply, nothing more than a poseur.

If one truly is an artist, the act of creating ought to be enough. Making money should be viewed as a bonus, not an entitlement. Oh sweet Mother Mary, if it were possible to upvote you more for this, I would. I'm struggling mightily right now because I chose this career. But I did so knowing full well that it was going to be a struggle. It was the price I chose to pay for pursuing my need to create. I have no sympathy at all for anyone whining about their struggle, precisely because I (and many others like me) are struggling. We're doing it out of love for our craft. The ugly fact (well... for real artists it isn't, but for the sea of wannabe poseurs out there, you betcha) is that the need to create is what makes one an artist, not the desire to be an artist and to make money. Haven't they been complaining for years about art "not being about the profit"? Then they need to actually live by those words rather than paying lip service to them.

Understating for effect. Sure, Daily Show (and by extension, Colbert Report) have some viewers among minorities, but the audience is for the most part whiter than a Yukon albino convention. The fanboys can stick their fingers in their ears and downvote me for pointing it out, but Stewart's target audience is undeniably white, college-educated, upper middle class males. They don't have to own it, but that doesn't change that fact.
