The majority of reports by neighbors turn out to have merit. And most do not come from Gladys Kravitz, they come from people who have normal lives and are reluctant to even mention it. In the course of a normal day, going to and from your car, doing yard work, sounds of heavy traffic, and even lights shining on your curtains tell you what is happening next door. Add to this length of stay, diversity of the cars, and time of day, you get a understanding of the purpose of these visits. If it walks like a duck, quacks like a duck, looks like a duck, it must be a duck. The neighbors acted responsively and did what they could to avoid this tragedy. My condolence goes out to the families of the fallen, and my admiration to a neighborhood that looks out for each other.
