I think the Lorax doesn't count as a sucker punch because you can see this one coming a mile a way. A punch, yes, but not a sucker punch.

I love that story! I'm still waiting for my little ones to get old enough to sit all the way through it. The only version they had in the store was in an anthogy that wraps up with The Lorax, which was unfortunate. I would rather not have spent money on that one (just think how many trees have died to print that book! those filthy capitalists...), but what can you do? I guess some day it will provide an opportunity to discuss logical fallacies and the anti-humanism of the green movement.

Big Hollywood : BH Interview: Radio Host Michael Medved On Liberal 'Humanitarians' and Pop Culture Bias - Part 1

Particularly at this time as the distribution medium is going through such a huge change. As people are relying less on theaters, cable and network TV for their entertainment, and moving toward streaming services, there is a huge opportunity for independent and small outfits to step in and have an opportunity to reach large numbers of people that they simply wouldn't have had five years ago.

Alright, since you're such a scientific genius here, what do you think is the result of putting impressionable students in a highly sex-saturated environment and telling them that any sexual act they wish to engage in is healthy and normal? Particularly when you couple it with that lovely phrase 'You're going to do it anyway...'

Big Hollywood : 'Star Wars: Episode One - The Phantom Menace 3D' Review: Jar Jar Aside, Prequel Still Has Merit

I agree. Instead of making the story more awesome, it just made 3PO lame. Make a dish washer. Make a parts sorter. Those are the sorts of things a slave needs. Princess Leia needed a protocol droid because she was a Princess and ambassador. They should have left both droids out of the prequels. They didn't add anything; rather, they strained credibility.

Big Hollywood : Michael Moore Goes On Anti-Catholic Twitter Rant, Distorts Contraception Debate

Your ability to sum up the entire nature of the Catholic church by pointing to the misbehavior of a handful of priests demonstrates a complete lack of education regarding Catholicism and a total removal from all logic, as demonstrated by the comparison to misbehaving teachers. No one looks at them and says that those teachers are sufficient evidence to discredit everything that comes out of public education. Your simplification is even more ludicrous when you take into account the aspects of the Catholic church that are directly related to the subject matter; ie. the Catholic Church is one of the largest health care providers in the United States, running somewhere around 20% of the hospitals in the country. Let's see, logically, would an organization that runs 20% of the nation's hospitals know something about health care, and the sorts of things that ought to be provided in order to keep people healthy? YES. And as far as employees of the Catholic church who want to use birth control, the Catholic church has absolutely no ability to prevent them from using it. They cannot do a single thing to stop them from purchasing birth control pills, or abortions. They can't even stop practicing Catholics from using birth control. But if a woman feels that having her birth control subsidized is an important feature in choosing an employer, she should turn to the 80% of the health care field that isn't run by Catholics and get work there. The idea that women are helpless waifs incapable of running their own lives is frankly insulting. You misogynist.

You're entirely correct. The false advertising the left uses on this subject is astounding. They complained about marriage in the 60's because somehow being a wife meant you were just a sex toy, and feminism was somehow supposed to liberate women from being treated as only sexual objects, but instead of having men treat women's sexuality as sacred, liberals really want all women to be non-profit whores. We shouldn't get in the way of a woman's ability to be used for sex by any man who wants her by requiring that she pay for birth control; we shouldn't interrupt a woman's sexual availability by making her go through an entire pregnancy and post-birth recovery... We shouldn't require that men who want to use her for sex go through the minimum requirement of throwing her a big party and promising they'll love her, cherish her, stay with her through sickness and health... Because all of that interferes with a man's ability to sleep around with the maximum number of women possible.

Hooray! I'm so glad to hear you say that covering up molestation removes an organization's right to have any opinions. I guess that means that public school teachers (who molest kids at a rate 30 times greater than the Catholic priests did) can shut up about funding for public schools now. There were rapes at the Occupy movements, including the rape of a minor in Dallas. I guess that means we get to ignore everything wrong with the banking sector because they've forfeited their first amendment rights. In fact, the only organization I know of that has a perfectly clean bill of health in the sexual depravity realm is the Tea Party. Time to shut everyone up and let the Tea Party be the only group who has a say politically!

Big Government : Saul Alinsky and the Romneys' Progressive Activism

I agree. I'm always skeptical of articles whose evidence is quotes from secondhand sources and things one's relatives did. If Mitt likes Alinksy, let's find those quotes from Mitt. If Mitt's a progressive, then there's plenty of things during his time in office to debate. The article he links to as demonstrative of a "long history of progressive activism" basically says George Romney organized a march in Detroit to show solidarity with the marches in Selma, and supported equal opportunity in housing rights. That's not enough to hang someone out to dry, in my opinion.

Alinksy didn't write Rules until '71, so it would be interesting to know what George Romney thought about him then (if he was aware of the book and dedication). The quote from Romney was in a book published in '68, so he would have been unable to use Rules as part of his criteria for judging the man.

Breitbart.tv : Newt: 'I'm Probably Going To Win' South Carolina

Actually, I'm already feeling the impact of Obamacare. Our deductible has gone from $500 pp to $2000 pp (with a $1250 rebate, which sort of plan never existed prior to Obamacare), and despite the plan covering less, we're paying more. Thanks, Obamacare! Also, with the birth of our second child, we found out that the hospital didn't provide all of the items it did before - why? Because when Obamacare passed, they stopped producing them altogether while their lawyers went over the bill to see how it affected them, and then decided it was okay to produce them, just not give them to hospitals. That way, they could say they were baby items, not health care items, and not have to worry about the regulations. So the affecting 15% of the population part is wrong, since insurance rates went up 9% last year alone. The democrats claimed rates would drop as soon as their bill passed...

Big Journalism : Context-Challenged Media Doesn't Tell Full Story About Obama's Fourth-Quarter Fundraising

On top of that, they're only comparing Obama's fundraising to Mitt Romney. Obama is unopposed on the Democrat side of the aisle. He's receiving 100% of democrat fundraising dollars, whereas the republican fundraising dollars are split between Romney, Paul, Gingrich, Santorum et al. If they wanted to compare apples to apples, they'd combine the republican presidential candidates fundraising totals and compare *that* to Obama's totals.

Big Government : Blinded by the Left: How Marxists Wrote Ron Paul's Defense Cuts Plan

On top of VV supplying a 2006 resolution on Israel when he was claiming to be referencing something from the 1980s, the resolution he produced was one condemning attacks *against* Israel, and *supporting* Israels right to defend itself, when the claim is that Ron Paul voted against condemning Israel for defending itself. The truth of this link is that Paul was one of only 8 congressmen, and the only Republican, to vote *against* a resolution supporting Israel's right to defend itself. So basically, if we're to believe VV's evidence, the story he's claiming to support is the exact opposite of the truth.

Big Hollywood : Rather than Make Better Movies, Hollywood Increases DVD Wait Time for Redbox and Netflix

By the time a movie comes out on Netflix 60 days after it's left theaters, I will have forgotten about it. When it comes out right after the movie's left theaters, at least I remember it still exists. In theaters, it has to compete against maybe 8-12 other films that are out at the same time. If it goes straight to Netflix, then it's going to be competing against other movies that are fresh in people's minds, maybe the last 16-24 movies that have been released. If they wait 60 days, then people aren't going to be going to Netflix because they remember that particular film and want to watch it, they will be going for any film in general, and the movie will have to compete against the entire Netflix library. Not good odds.

The need to tell people what to do and how to think is compulsive with liberals. I went on facebook today, and my conservative friends/family were all commenting on how much they enjoyed time with their families. Then there was the liberal side with the anti-Black Friday rant, managing to enclude an ode to OWS, trashing people going to sales as lemmings, the liberal catch phrases 'line the pockets,' 'buy [the stuff] you don't really need,' 'gass guzzling SUV,' and 'shop locally,' along with fallacious ideals like items hand made by local artisans cost less and there's more value to be had by spending your money with local businesses than getting the best value for your dollar.
